George's First TT

Postby Andrew G » Sat Feb 09, 2008 6:30 pm

I wanted to have a test ride on my TT bike today so gave the CR a miss and rode out to see George start his season in a 15 mile Sporting TT.

Had a nice 40 mile ride out, but was very grateful for George's lift home as it saved me another 35 miles when it was getting darker (I had no lights) and getting colder. Cheers.

I'll let the man himself fill in all the details, but the boy done good, 6th overall out of a field of 60. :D
Just wait 'til he's got the hang of it. 8)

Absolutely fantastic day today and the course was in fine condition with little wind, I managed to wear my skinsuit and Aero lid for the first time.

Well I know this course pretty well it is part of our clubrun we ride every week but it was a little lumpy to say the least.

At the start Andrew was there to support us and had a test ride out on his HED TT machine, the starter recognized me from when I won a Criterium down in Brighton last year, he said "well your in the wrong category" But I did tell him it was my first proper TT event :D

Started off well at Faygate and got into a nice position on the Aero bars, I could feel I was tanking along and and had passed 3 riders before I'd even got to Rusper

Down the hill and everything seemed to be going by very fast, there was the Wop Wop of the Disc wheel all the time and the whistle of the wind through the Aero lid was quite noisey.

coming back up partridge lane and there were quite a long few drags where my speed would drop down to the early 20's.

I was reeling in lots of riders and think I passed about 8 in total, one on an old sit up and beg fixed wheel bike. At one stage a car had slowed behind a rider so I overtook them both which was fun :D

The final bend at the bottom of the hill after Rusper, I took at full speed and cranked it over almost running off the road. Up the last drags and back down to cross the finish line, I was coughing up my lungs which Andrew told me was a classic time triallers cough.

Enjoyed the ride today but was feeling a little weak after having 10 days off the bike with man Flu

Still happy with my time of 34.42 I easily took the class win by over a minute but there were 5 Elites who managed to go faster :o , so I was presented with a nice 1st place cheque and vouchers to spend at In Gear Cycle Sport.

So all I've gotta do now is get quicker cos the winner was nearly 3 minutes quicker :)

Sorry to hear about your crash Stu, luck nothing broken, you must learn to stay upright

Well my average speed for the sporting course was 25.6mph, it was pretty tough to keep the speed high up some of those drags I can tell ya

Well done George. I hope you do lots more TTs during the road racing season as hopefully that will allow us to keep up with you while you are recovering from them.

The organiser was right - George - there's no-one like you mate ! Astounding...I could feel a small wind storm from yr rear wheel all they way upto Forest Hill ! All the bone China in the K household was rattling as you went around that course ! Maybe you need some more kit George : Huw, do they make XXXL powertaps with extra wide screens to fit all the numbers on ? :D

Averaging over 25 mph for a sporting course is superb. Wait till you have a go on a dual carriageway :D

Though I heard some friendly heckling there, couldn't turn y head to look though, otherwise I would have spoilt my aero position

Excellent stuff George. 25mph+ on a course like that is brilliant.

Enter a few more TTs which have category or handicap prizes and you should clean up. Of course once you've got some fast times to put on your entry form the organisers will suss you out, so make the most of it now.

Sounds like Andrew Green was riding it after all

Top riding George! Keith Coffey always gives me a shout of encouragement when he flies past me on a TT. Make sure you do the same  .
