Went along to watch the Surrey League 2/3 race at Crowhurst this afternoon.

No Addiscombe 1-2 this week, but I believe the club has another 2nd Cat rider....

Well it’s hardly rocket science Keith is it since the other two were already 2nd cat

Bunch sprint for 4th place (17pts)

Thanks to Michelle Huw and Keith for coming supporting and taking pics with my camera. Good luck for tomorrow's race Keith!

I found the race a bit boring especially compared to last week’s, in some part due to the course and in part the dynamics. But there was no way to replicate the feat as the field was wayyy stronger with some serious looking guys in there, and teams of up to 12 riders. Michelle informed me we even had Nicole Cooke’s team mate from Vision 1 parked just behind us. I did stay towards the front most of the time and tried to follow some attacks but never got much more than 50m away. Toks had some good digs though, initiating attacks on more than one occasion – one looked good from where I was standing (at the front trying to slow the bunch :D ) but not successful eventually, and Hal came towards the front in the latter stages.

I think it was 5 that got away when I was a bit further back and didn’t see them, then later big Angus started TTing his way solo back to them – nice and steady – we did chase him pretty fast a few minutes later, but amazingly (well ..) he stayed ahead and made the junction. From what I can tell from the pictures only two riders from the break stayed in it, we picked up the others as we went – notably a very active and strong single Dulwich.

There were moments when we could see the back of the break but we somehow didn’t get back to them – they must have been giving some. Final ¼ lap into the crazy headwind a swarm of Dynamos joined the 2-3 ones we were already familiar with so I decided there were enough of them to let them do all the work :D . Was sat in about 4-6th wheel behind Miss Vision 1 and Toks, then the sprint launched and I got a decently clear run to come past the leading Dynamo. Angus said he hadn’t contested the sprint with the other two.

So bit of an anticlimax as nowhere near as exciting for me as getting in a successful break, even though good to see my sprint is competitive. So 2nd cat might mean I have to race the Easter 3-day with the 1/2/3 instead of 3rds - gulp ..

Gotta get some rest now before tomorrow’s mtb race (all in the name of training for stage racing ..) – might bail out of the morning race and do the afternoon one instead though – which means racing with the Elites – re-gulp ..

Keith took the photos with my camera - another ACC teamwork :D Just let me know the number on flickr and I can email you the hi-res version, you can credit Keith obviously.

Cheers - did the morning mtb race in the end. Unfortunately Sam Gardner turned up in our race cos he had a flight to a race tomorrow and didn't want to race with the Elites in the afternoon  . So the pace was pretty hot, I managed to cling on to the leaders' group for two of the four laps, then fell back on my own and lost about a minute, finishing 6th. Only 1h05 racing but it felt like much longer.

Well done Sylv for yesterday's results. I was screaming and swearing so hard when you won the bunch sprint, I nearly got sweeded by a Dynamo rider as all the action flowed past me.

There was a breakaway group who appeared with about 5 laps to go I think. Huw and I were driving the other way in the car and we saw it happen. The only obvious place for an attack was the slight drag then small hill up to Crowhurst Church. We saw a bunch of five putting in a mighty effort coming DOWN this hill, with the rest of the pelton just ambling along like it was a Redhill Club Run. In fact Sylv and Toks appeared to be on the front, seemingly controlling the pack for the riders in front. I am sure it was not really like that.

Two popped out the back of the lead group, and then that big guy Angus Mcallister from NP bridged the gap all on his own on such a windy afternoon, my lord he is strong. He got on and the next time I saw him there were 4 in that group and he was still working. On the last lap there were only three, those that podium placed.

Big Mac didn't contest the sprint to the line, so it was up to the other two Craig Stevenson (Boneshakers) and Sam Allen (Aw Cycles). They had a real good bust up, going from about 200m out shoulder to shoulder, it was like a track sprint. And so close. I spoke to each of them afterwards and they both thought they had got it. A fantastic end to the race.

A great little outing for me, though I think it will be my turn for Sylv's camera next time round.

Well done Sylv for your 6th in the MTB race. I bet you were hurting after Saturday's efforts.

Fantastic result Sylv, not much of a surprise seeing how strong you were going last week :D

Shame about the 3-day though, i was quite looking forward to being your domestique and helping you on your way to GC glory, now i'll have to try and get a result against all those Dynamo's on my own

Toks, you regularly badger people for their race reports.

Well....... where's yours?
