Just got home from running a half-marathon, as 3 and a half minutes is not exactly a day's worth of effort is it :D

Took me a little while to find where you got the results from Andrew but I got there

Well that's another thing i have in common with Wiggins - also got 4th yesterday at the Kingston Wheelers Leith Hill (for 0.3s) http://www.kingstonwheelers.co.uk/news.shtml

Funny that I should be beaten by a man named Pnuts - I managed to stay off the beer last night but almost overdosed on fried peanuts, had a mighty stomach ache afterwards ..

Leith Hill got the pacing pretty right, but when I saw the big crowd gathered at one corner I thought the finish was near and gave a big push, alas there was quite a long way to go and another bunch of crowd gathered at the proper finish and I suffered in the final stages, not perfect. Still I was glad to beat Rob "monster" (says Tony) Enslin. Might do the London Dynamo climb on same course.

Wigmore pacing was pretty spot on, saw some people starting waaay too fast, I was just spinning waiting for the steep part, then it kicked, got encouragement from the crowds saying I was the fastest looking so far, as I was hoping I had enough left to shift to big ring for the last section, but lost a few seconds as it took a couple attempts to get it to shift under load. In retrospect maybe could have gone a little harder on first section before the kick, but very hard to say. Scarlett was on a fixed btw. Tadros awesome!

[quote="KW site"]Race organiser Tim Lawn also rode. "My "cunning plan" of setting myself of first worked as I was sitting on top of the podium for nearly half an hour before Sylvain Garde went under four minutes and smashed my time by nearly 20 seconds", said Tim.

 I bet you did that slowly too  .

Yes, he's down for both Brighton Mitre ones next Saturday too so will give Adam someone to race against. I somehow don't think I'll be very close to either of them.

I doubt I'll get clost to Tadros, besides, I wouldn't want to upset the sponsor now would I...

Did you notice how I'm down as a junior for the afternoon, but not the morning, Andrew!?

Yes, I thought it odd as your not a Junior anymore are you? Thought that was under 18s, or is it 23s now? Not something I have to worry about  .

Best call Robin and let him know whether you are or not as you might skew the prizes in one or other event otherwise.

Not sure how you're fairing on hills these days, the first one's a steep bugger, but the second one can be done mainly/all big ring and is a real power climb so I think you'll do well on that one. There's bags of time between the 2 races to drive over to the second HQ and have your packed lunch and a gentle spin up the hill as a warm up so you know what's where on it.

I'm not sure where he's gotten junior from anyway, it definately doesn't say junoir anywhere on my form. A bit like organisors who seem convinced I ought to spell my surname ...erill... instead of ...erell!

If it weren't for the one other junior on the start list, I'd have kept quiet. As there is a real junior on the start list, I shall let them know. I wouldn't want to steal candy from a baby now, would I!

I didn't realise the roads were open to regular traffic  That's crazy to do an event like this with cars behind you.

Sean

there's your photo snoops!

yeh a bit odd at first but those roads were much wider / straighter than the ones used for bec & catford, no way you could race up there with traffic.

after my ride up leith though i rode down halfway to look at the last riders, and there was a really slow tractor going up that i was sure was going to get in someone's way. i was riding up slowly while checking behind me and was about to stop in a lay-by and managed to slip into some gravel as i wasn't looking, crash and damage my "good" knee (which you can see in that photo ..)

Can't see picture at work.....but why is it silly?

Only the Bec has a closed road as the local council agree to do it on that day. It's a TT, it's on open roads. In reality hill climbs are on quiet lanes in general so the amount of traffic you get is very small and if you do get a car behind you they just have to wait until you get to the top or pass safely. If it's a popular HC then the crowds stop the driver doing anything too silly.

A junior remains so until the end of the year that he/she becomes 18. does that help?

There will not be many Hill Climbs held on closed roads. Most clubs could not afford the cost of it even if it was possible.. The Catford climb is far narrower than Hollingnbourne Hill and is open to traffic.

There was not so much traffic on the course yesterday and as has been said it is a two way road and plenty of room to overtake. It is unfortunate that just a few miles on from the summit a steam rally was taking place. That just might have attracted a few more vehicles than usual. But there was no problem.

Very good ride from Sylvain. Maybe he can persuade a few more of you to take the plunge next year. It is hoped to have a Dixieland Jazz Band playing for a couple of hours to celebrate the events 35th year. It also happens to be the 35th year I will have been at the helm.
