Did my first 2/3 race today over at Crowhurst 110km. Reasonably flat course, couple of small bumps. Plenty of potholes on one section and quite narrow roads.
I started off the race sitting quite near the back of the 80 strong peleton, half way through the race I spotted John Sadler starting to move up to the front where Daren and Dave K were. I thought that it would be worth following him up so moved up and soon was on the front.
At one point madness set in and I decided to have a little shot off front, did not really come to anything. Then John had a go and Dave, Daren and I tried our best to block the peleton. I think we managed to slow it a bit and John got away for a few laps. While John was out off the front we had to chase down a few riders etc and it was good fun, although probably wasted a bit too much energy.
After a few laps near the front I was finding the pace a bit tough going, I slowed up and went back to the comfort of the peleton. And that was about the sum of my race. Didn't have much left at the end of the race and therefore did not even get involved in the sprint.
The pace of the 2/3 was probably a couple of miles per hour faster than the 3/4 races and 30km longer, so I was reasonably happy that I came in with the peleton. Average speed according to my monitor including the neutralised zone at the start was 40kph, so a pretty good pace.
Just got to recover for the Tonbridge Tri which takes place tomorrow morning, mind you if tour riders can have consequitive days of racing then I am sure I can manage.
Cheers
