SCCU 10 22/5

Postby Andrew G » Sat May 22, 2010 10:07 am

Up early for the SCCU 10 today along with four other Addiscombe, with Mark being a DNS. Today had promised great weather but being such an early start it hadn't really got a chance to get going. There was a bit of a breeze on the out leg and low lying mist which was a real nuisance for me as I had to continually wipe my glasses lenses as they misted up reducing visability.

Ian and Sylv were also up early pushing off so a big thanks to them, and I got a nice big push from Sylv :D . I'd been looking forward to this as my first 10 on this course of the year but my legs didn't want to get going early on, probably my own fault as I didn't get as long to warm up as I'd have liked thanks to a call of nature (had to wait a while until a canary stayed alive). I pushed on in to the breeze on the out leg and didn't feel as though I was going badly, just not as well as I'd have liked and couldn't get my legs working as I wanted.

Around the turn and now had the breeze behind, my legs also woke up and I was picking up speed nicely. I really got in a nice groove on the way back and was flying in places, had a bit of fun overtaking a car on a roundabout as I was faster round the outside than they were in the outside lane but the tighter line on the RAB  . I caught a couple of people on the way but didn't manage to sight my minute man.

I finished a bit disappointed with 23:35 as although a decent time I know it wasn't as quick as it should have been if I'd started well.

Addiscombe:
Robert Royle-Evatt 23:12
Andrew Green 23:35
Ivor Hewitt 24:14 Congrats on the PB :D .
Fred Schwarz 22:46 (don't see Fast Fred very often but when he's out he always knocks out a quick time).
George Brent 21:40 2nd on scratch :D and beat Lee Turner by a second and Sean Kennedy by 7 :D .

George, Fred, and Rob might be in with a shout at the Team prize as the Bec only had 2 riders out today.

Event was won by Rupert Burbidge from Redhill who's been going very well this season with 20:53.

Todays goal was a sub 24. actually tried to be a bit more scientific with my approach this time and had a range of time splits printed on slips of paper taped to my bars so i could work out how fast i needed to go between each roundabout.
Started slow and steady and kept an eye on my times felt a bit harder than i expected on the out leg since the weather felt like a fast day before I started off.
My times were a bit down from my printed list so tried pushing a bit more on the return. Hadn't caught my minute man but hadn't been passed either which was reassuring, 35 pulled past just before the second to last r'bout, realised i'd got a bit more in the tank and pegged his pace. Slightly disappointed as i saw 24 minutes go on my watch just before i got to the line, but still happy with a pb.

Great to see two agreeables on the start line and an excellent shove to start!

Checking the download afterwards i reckon i could have got a bit more pace on the out leg - i'll upload the graph when i get home.

Lovely set of results. I learned to never be disappointed with a PB Ivor, mind you I only learned it after knocking nearly two mins off my time in this event 2 years ago and having the right hump cos I'd not gone quick enough  . When the £30 handicap winner cheque arrived I cheered up a touch mind :D .

Good work team

Blimey I was trying to work out what they were and couldn't make any sense out of it  You did look like you were going for it right from the start.

It must have been Rupert who gave me a hard time holding him steady at the start - big guy eh

George would be more than 1s clear from L.Turner if he had the same bike :D

Great pics from Mike as usual. Why the insulating tape holding your nose together George?

Good for asserting your TT position, these photos

Don't think the tape did much to George as the original one is sprung in order to open the nostrils

This is the first time I've had a decent photo showing my new aero position, Ivor you've got the same hump in your back like me.

I look like I could go even lower at the front.
