First race after a bit of a break due to knee problems, which thankfully seem to have sorted themselves out thanks to the bike fit guys.
Was bliming hot weather today but a 9.30am start meant it was not too bad once you got going. Ninfield course is about 8 miles long and we did about 6 laps 80km. At the start line I spied Lewis Atkins (bliming good elite rider who is a junior) and young Will the junior from Pacific who has been riding very well in second cat races.
On the first lap I had my usual rush of blood and tried to escape with a couple of others, but the course has a long hill in it and this soon sorted us out and we were back in the pack.
On the second lap Lewis Atkins and a few others broke from the peleton not surprisingly and within a few minutes they had 40 seconds on us. Then thankfully a tractor saved us and bought us all back together.
Third lap again Atkins and co got away and am not sure how many were in the break. The rest of us worked together but we could not catch the lead group. On the fourth lap I had a go at getting away from the group but was reeled back in after a longish effort. On the last lap stayed in the group and got about 4th in the sprint on the uphill finish. Not sure of my overall place as don't know how many were in the lead group.
Reasonably pleased that managed to stay with the peleton just need another race or so to get back up to speed and I am hoping I will be back in the points. Maybe I will look for a flat course for my next race. Average speed was 35kmph for the 80km, it was pretty hilly though.
Cheers
