ECCA 100

Postby George » Sun Jun 26, 2011 5:15 pm

Rob RE and I drove down together for this early start 100 this morning and met Jon H at the Eagle RC HQ.

Main goal today was to get sub 4 hours, that was the target and I would not be happy if mission was unacomplished

Rob and Jon were both off before me starting 11 and 5 mins ahead of me, so nice carrots to catch.

From the start there is a 10 mile gradual decent down single carridgeway roads before you get onto the fast DC.

Was a beautiful morning quite still and warm with the sun only really getting strong in the last half hour, pretty spot on I'd say for a hundred miler.

Was thinking about Andrew and Paul and all the other 24H riders before the start who were still trundling round the Sussex roads before during and after our 100 mile TT.

I was on song today and soon reeled in Jon and felt great along the fast stretches of main road. Passed Rob on the end of the first lap and just maintained a steady powerful cadence. :D

I had some great support from Marian and Keith Butler who were down for their son in law who was competing.

70 miles in and still felt super so kept it going hard with no let up, 10 miles to go and we turned onto slower single carrigeway road which slowly climbed to the finish.

5 miles to go and I started to get twinges of cramp in my legs but a quick lick of the arms soon got the sodium back into my system, then with 2 miles to go I really felt it and almost vomited from the overdose of energy drinks whicgh get a little sickly after a long ride.

Crossed the chequered flag by the fighting cocks pub with a massive yes shout I had only gone and done it :D

I was like a Cheshire cat at the HQ afterwards.

George 3.55 PB by 8 mins and first sub 4 hour ride :D
Jon 4.33
Rob 4.27

After your fine efforts helping the 24-Hour riders down in Sussex till late afternoon the day previous, George, any feeble excuses for not helping in future club events will be kicked right out of court! Super ride, George. Now fror 12hr and 24hr PBs!
