A recent update of the points table on the Spoco SE website informed me that someone else apart from me seemed to be a ringer in the handicap competition. The leader was on 810 points, with me languishing in 3rd place on 785.5, so I've somehow got to make up 25 places if I'm to achieve my season goal of taking the handicap trophy.
Luckily, one of my two counting events in group 3 (the long ones) was a lowly 40th place, and the Colchester Rovers 47 had a small field of 40 something, so plenty of opportunity for some good point bagging.
Not so luckliy, I seem to have acquired a dodgy knee recently, so wasn't too hopeful for a decent performance, but rode anyway. Took it reasonably steady on the first 22 mile lap, then tried to up the effort on the 2nd lap and cane it on the last 3 miles to the finish. Paced it OK and finished suitably knackered in 2:04:51 for 21st place.
So, with that bunch of points jumps me up to 2nd place, 4 points behind the leader. All to play for in the final few events.
