For the third Saturday in a row I headed up the M11 to Cambridgeshire, this time to ride the Zak Carr Memorial 25 promoted by API-Metrow for whom Zak rode for a number of years before being hit and killed by a vehicle whilst riding to work last year.
Well, Zak had obviously had a word with the big guy upstairs and arranged some decent weather. A warm evening with a slight southerly wind, giving a headwind to push against on the way out, and a tailwind to help on the return leg.
Gave it some welly on the way out knowing if I could keep the speed up into the wind I could cruise back. Got to the turn (12.77 miles) in exactly 29 minutes and knew I was on for a pb if I could maintain the same speed on the way back. The tailwind gave a bit of assistance, and I finished in 56:59, a new pb by over two minutes.
The event was won quite fittingly by a member of the promoting club, G.Empson in 50:27.
