Crawley Wheelers 10

Postby Andrew G » Sat Jul 28, 2007 2:17 pm

Up before dawn again for another 10 on the Broadbridge Heath course. I was the only Addiscombe rider today as most of the testers are saving themselves for the SCCU 100 tomorrow, good luck all.

Not a bad day, reasonable still and the roads were still a bit damp from the overnight rain, so the air was nicely oxygenated.

Met Dave Palmer at the start again, who was off 3 minutes behind me so I had a nice target of avoiding being caught by him. He got his sandbag in early saying he hadn't got to bed until 2am.

The ride itself went pretty well, I was caught by a rocket after about 3 miles which is normal as I'm always a low seed and therefore have one if the fast boys lining up behind me.

After the turn there was a bit of a head wind, same place as last time but a bit stonger today and made miles 5 - 7 a bit of a grind.

I was caught by my 2 minute man after 7.5 miles but kept him in sight for a mile so he proved a handy marker as I never saw the bloke who set off in front of me. :?

Final drop and drive for the finish line, looked behind and Dave still wasn't in site so I was a happy bunny. Back to HQ and did 26:08 which is my second fastest 10 and only 12 seconds off my PB. Probably about even as the wind was a bit stronger today. Average HR of 166 which is about 85%.

Dave rolled in to the HQ carpark saying he'd found it got tougher as he went on today. On an inspection of his disc wheel we discovered that the carbon sheet had popped out of the rim in a small section which had effectively knocked it out of true. I can only think it must have been as he got out the saddle and put the power down coming out of one of the many roundabouts, but it meant that the wheel had been dragging on the brake block for about a quarter of each revolution. Bearing that in mind the 24:04 he did was damn impressive. For the record it was a mavic, same as Dave millar's exploding discs!

I left early to get back to Coulsdon for the CR but Keith was leading at the time with a 20:24, One second better than Christian Yates.
