Mr PVT and I were up in Essex this morning for the Eagle RC 50, on the E1/50 course. I was riding to qualify for the Spoco SE competition, PVT was riding because it seemed like a good idea at the time he entered.
Seemed like quite a nice morning at the HQ, where we observed that the tall poplar trees were hardly moving in the light breeze.
Started off well enough, up the lumpy B road through Quendon, Newport, Littlebury & Great Chesterford averaging over 25mph. Onto the A11 which forms the fast E2/10 course, where the speed went up. Then off at Six Mile Bottom onto another lumpy road. Got to the turn at Stechworth (25.26 miles) in around 58 and a half minutes. Woohoo!
Well, to use a phrase borrowed from football commentators, it's a game of two halves. For the second half of this one, the wind had got up somewhat, and the return leg was straight into a headwind so maintaining 20mph was tough. Finished in 2.08.12, which meant my 2nd 25 was ten minutes slower than the 1st.
PVT lost the will to live on the return leg, and clocked in at 2:14:57.
