Redmon CC 25 - return to racing

Postby Dominic » Sun Apr 05, 2009 12:06 pm

Well after Addiscombe's great showing yesterday nothing much to report here.

The course starts just off the A24 then onto it up to the Beare Green roundabout where you do a left onto the A29. Then all the way to the A281 to Broadbridge Heath and then onto the dual carriageway to Southwater and back to the finish.

Started off with lungs feeling like two wet paper bags and legs feeling like spaghetti and finished pretty much the same

Wanted to stop by the time I got to the A29 but that would have meant too far to go back to the HQ so I thought I should carry on. Things got slightly better and I actually felt like I was going fast at some points. I actually caught a couple of people 109 and 114. I was 116.

Got caught by Pete Tadros at about halfway which was roughly what I was expecting. He was flying, just for a change :D got on to the dual carriageway and turned at the Robin Hood roundabout and noticed that 118 was catching me. For those not accustomed to TT numbering a rider with a 6 on the end should be faster than one with an 8. I managed to hold him off until Southwater but as I was turning I noticed that Andrew Green, Old Ports (117) was up on me aswell.

Struggle back up the drag and blasted (ha ha) down to the finish look at my watch an knew I had done a crap time. This was confirmed at the HQ with a 1.01.33. My slowest time on this course by about 1.5 mins.

The event was won by Peter Tadros in a long 52. Keith (hairy legs/not in shape) Coffey did a 58.

Not sure what happened to Mr PVT, he had signed on but his number was returned with no time or explanation recorded. I hope you are okay Paul? Chris Watts did wonder if you had done home for breakfast

Despite all that though, I have to say I enjoyed myself. It's nice to be back racing, the sun is shining and the Tour of Flanders is on TV soon(and beer). Hurrah 8)

Cheers Dom.

That was an excellent time on that course.

It was really tough the first 5 miles up to Beare Green into a Northerly breeze - absolutely freezing and mostly uphill - average 21mph, (in fact I rode to work faster on that section with panier bag a few weeks ago  ) - bound to improve down to Clemsfold - errrr NO. It felt even harder and riders were passing me with steady regularity. Got to Broadbridge heath and the hall beckoned - couldn't face the Southwater leg, and nipped back to the hall as DNF.
I think legs and body were still tired from the road race the day before - it is surprisingly stressful and takes a lot out of you.
