I beat Lance!!

Postby Jim B » Wed Apr 08, 2009 8:10 pm

Paris Marathon last Sunday 2.51 on first attempt at that distance.
Lance 2.59 on his debut.
Shame he's a global superstar and I'm.......
Wasn't sure what to expect as I'd never run that distance before. Started off steady, but couldn't really go any quicker due to congestion. It took a lot longer than I expected to thin out but at least I was fresh for the second half and ran a negative split.
It was a scenic course and a good way of seeing some of the sights of Paris.
No real ill effects now apart from a couple of blisters and some stiff legs. Now I can get back to some proper bike training.

That was 2 hours+ of Premier League gonad bashing. Did they corrugate the roads specially?
I thought I could take it easy, ride a steady 59.30 pace and break the 2 hour barrier never to have to do a 50 again. How wrong I was.
I wish I'd left the disc in the car as the bumpy ride really got tiring near the end. I was nearly crying as every bump in the road went straight up the wedding tackle.
Still you get good value for your entry fee I suppose. Next time I might just pay the lad over the road a fiver to repeatedly kick me in the knackers for a while.

Still one of the funniest things I've read on this here forum

The 50 was way harder. I could barely stand at the end of it.
Might try another one this year though. Hopefully won't have a saddle sore the size of a slug next time!

Well done Jim, cracking time. You did a 50 last year, got to do a 100 this year :D . What saddle did you use? Is it a TT one with a softer nose as they help on the longer ones, and I spend longer there than you do - I also use more chamois cream for longer events. Just slather it all over :P .
