Well we had a float day today with less than 1mph of wind the tops of the trees were not moving although it could have been a tad warmer.
A last minute change of course and instead of riding all on the A1 we continued further south and then a 5 mile out and back on single road. This added a bit nore climbing but was still a good fast course.
I slotted my disc wheel in the back and Xentis front so the Tandem looked like a real mean machine.
We were starting off right at the back of the field just behind Fat Baz who was seeded fastest rider.
The other Tandem was a DNS so as long as we finished we would finish first
Got going well and the first roundabout came up a bit too fast for Paul as we just about made it whilst missing a very nasty pothole
Tonking down the A1 we wound the bike right up to warp speed and could keep it cruising at 31+mph, it seemed so fast, so much faster than a solo with the same effort, riders we caught were rapidly ejected out behind us.
As I was the stoker on the back there was very little wind and just Pauls back to look at, on the odd occasion I poked my head out only to feel the strong gust of wind so kept back in the aero tuck. Paul seems to lean to the left when riding, so if I sat straight then we would veer sharply to the left, I found that if I looked slightly to the right and kept my left forearm off the clip on pad then we were perfectly balanced.
Now we had a record to beat and had to keep pushing it, at the turn as we went into the roundabout fat Baz was exiting so we were only 30 secoonds behind taking a minute out of Top seed, which was nice
Rejoining the A1 northbound and there were a few serious drags to ride, this seemed to slow us down a lot more than the solo due to our weight but once over the top it was full speed ahead to the finish line.
Crossed the line with 1.02.19 taking nearly a minute out of the old club record that had held since 1937, boy oh boy Mills & Boon must have been quick in their day
We won the event outright beating all the other solos and took 2 mins out of Cammish and just beat Fat Baz.
I wish I could ride a solo at that pace it would be awesome.
Great Agreeable morning and were both really chuffed at the new club record, I wonder how quick we could have gone if we rode the original course.
Thanks Paul for getting us round safely, I must say Paul sure knows how to ride a tandem.\
