A DNF for me this morning .
I woke up with what can politely be called a jippy tummy. Just about made it out of the smallest room to be able to drive to the HQ and get there with just enough time to get changed and off to the start. Arrived at the same time as the other 3 Agreeables in George's van.
Really I should have DNS'd as I was "empty" but decided to start and see how it went and if I could re-fuel on the go. Short answer is no I couldn't. I couldn't eat without my stomach starting to do a bit of a washing machine impression.
I kept to the energy drink and had a gel on each of the first two laps, as these were just about okay, but without fuel I knew I wouldn't be able to complete a 100, you've got shove some food down your face and have something in your stomach. The speed wasn't very good either so there really was no reason to carry on.
I pulled in at the end of the second lap, after 40 miles. My Dad had said he'd pop down for some support so I felt disappointed to have given him a bit of a wasted trip. He had a little spin in the nearby lanes though and we gave a shout to George and Rob for a lap or two. The "we" included PVT who'd also pulled in after 2 laps. He'd decided to ride fixed as there was a prize on offer but the drags on that course are a bit, well draggy, and a couple quite steep to keep repeatedly hauling a fixed over so he'd called it a day early too.
Lessons learnt:
1) Dodgy stomach in the morning = don't try and ride a 100.
2) Don't think I can do a 100 on my TT bike at the moment. Up to 50s and I'm okay but with the current frame (a touch too big) then a 100 is a bit of a step to far. Road bike with PX 50s for the SCCU 100 me thinks.
3) Don't ride a 100 on that course again. It's a rolling 20 mile up and down loop. I did a 50 on it early this year and that was just about okay, but the tedium factor of a 100 and 5 laps on it is more than I can take. The SCCU course may be harder but it's more interesting.
