Well, despite a series of near disasters, I managed to ride two 10 mile time trials this afternoon on the F2/10 course near Cambridge.

Near disaster #1: Roadworks just north of the Blackwall Tunnel meant I crawled along the approach for around half an hour, eating into my carefully planned schedule. Consequently I got to the HQ about 30 minutes before my start time.

Signed on, grabbed my numbers, drove off and parked in a layby nearer the course.

Near disaster #2: Somehow the brake lever on my TT bike had managed to tangle itself into the spokes of the front wheel of my old skool bike, despite being separated in the car by an old curtain. This required taking both bikes out of the car together to disentangle them.

Near disaster #3: Rode to where I thought the start was, but my memory is obviously a bit dodgy as I was one roundabout too far up the road. Turned round and headed back past where I'd parked and found the right place.

First ride went OK, riding my early seventies Holdsworth with a 53x15 fixed gear I got round in 24:12 and was 5th fastest old-skool out of around 15 riders.

Had about an hour between finishing that ride and my start time in the main event, plenty of time to change shoes & number, and sort out the TT bike.

Near disaster #4: Got on my TT bike to ride to the start, got about 500m up the road and punctured. Luckily I'd taken a spare wheel, so walked back to the car and changed wheels so I didn't have to faff around changing tubs.

Second ride didn't go so well; I thought I'd probably go around 1.5 minutes faster on the TT bike, but my legs didn't really want to play again and I finished in 23:34.
