Turbo advice

Evening all - i am thinking about getting turbo to add to general low mileage. i don't know anything about them and not sure what base budget i should go for. any recommendations, or items to avoid. Francis

The main problem with the turbo is boredom. There are a number of solutions from listening to music/watching videos, getting things like Sufferfest training videos up to buying a fandangle computer controlled turbo that allegedly lets you ride real stages of things.

I use [url=http://www.thesufferfest.com/video-sufferfests/]Sufferfest[/url] videos and a magnetic turbo that I leave on one resistance and alter the difficulty using gears. Clearly not nearly enough though as I am fat and slow. Also some sort of fan is a good idea because you will sweat.

The Cyclops Fluid 2 is a great trainer. Not because I have one but they score very highly in the reviews you read. You can pick one up for just over 200 quid.

Get one, get a large fan, download some Sufferfest videos and prepare to sweat and suffer like you never have before

It might be boring at first but vids help. I record races from Eurosport and watch them whilst on turbo. Sufferfest is great too.

As for turbos, i have Elite Elastrogel like the one below and if I was rating it I'd give it five stars.

Avoid the cheap ones..I got one for about £80 a fews years ago and it makes a right royal racket. You'll definitely need a big fan, preferably positioned about an inch away, I even wear a sweat band, its a bit 1970's tennis player but stops the sweat getting into your eyes. I watch races on steep hill tv…and as for music I usually listen to good 'ol 50's rockabilly…something a little up tempo,lounge music or prog rock would be pretty useless…although lounge music and prog rock aren't really my cup to tea anyway…..

You can also get some free spin classes on iTunes, if you "buy into them" they will make you sweat like never before ...or maybe that's just me !

I got a Tacx turbo trainer and it was £100 or £120 years ago so I reckon it would be cheaper now. I think I got it from Wiggle...It is basic but it does the job. I used Sufferfest videos for my turbo sessions as without them I would not last more than half hour spinning indoor...you need an incentive to keep you going, turbo is a bit boring on its own, I think. Music can help too.
