THE AVERAGE CYCLIST

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

THE AVERAGE CYCLIST

ajay,
I don't know what you're doing specifically in your diet/health plan. But taking simple steps like just carrying a small notebook and keeping a log of exactly what you're eating is one of the best things to do (well it was for me).
Not only do you then have a log of what you're eating and you can think about exactly how many full fat latte's a day you end up drinking, but the actual act/habit of consciously making the note makes it easier to realise what you're doing and eating and not have that afternoon twix.

PS 10 minute mile. isn't that walking? :P

[quote="ajay khandelwal"]Thanks Sylv...in fact was talking about your role as unofficial bike and kit supplier to the Addiscombe on Saturday club run. We had Eliot out on a titanium merlin you sold him...Brian Robinson's bought your Look 585...and I was using two carbon bottle cages provided by you.

Not to forget that I was on Sylv's first road bike - a Sunn Team Titanium.

So... does Sylv ever buy the right thing first time?

[quote="ajay khandelwal"]Did a 6 mile run with Dulwich Runners, at 10 minute mile pace, but did some heel sucking of a faster group towards the end, and ran some 8 minute miles...
I was absolutely convinced i got some wind shelter running at the back of the group ! 8) . Post run drink reduced from 2pints to 1.5 pints. Progress is being made ! :P
Well done Super, we're all watching

Ajay, does your 'low level aerobic training' include cleaning your bike?

Keep up the good work. Personally, I'd much rather read about chocolate cake intake than wattage output  .

Keep it up Ajay! I remember just over a year ago you taught me everything I needed to know to start racing round Hillingdon.

Mr Average, NOT you should be MR MOTIVATOR just like MR TOKS :D

Thursday night - played five aside football with only 9 men, so extra good work out, even though I was in goal a lot
Only 1 pint of Guiness in the 'Village Inn'. Progress is being made !

Ok orv, i've bought the weighing scale and calorie counter, and now i'm logging what I eat ! Weigh-in shows I've lost a kg in a week - down from 78kg to 77kg :D

Graham - yes your the missing piece in the Slyv bike puzzle history ! I'm looking forward to having you as my lead out man at Hillingdon in team sub-prime cyclists.

George thanks for the compliment.

Funnily enough Lance Armstrong rang me shortly afterwards and told me I'd taught him everything he knew about time trialling and climbing !

Down to 77.95 kg now. I've shaved my legs, taken off my rear brake blocks and deleted extra tracks from my ipod !

Ready for the club run now ! :P

Lovely club run !

Meet up with old cycling buddy Mark Mc on way down...and 300 rpm Nigel ! Always great to catch up with a few riders on the ride down before you enter the cycling stadium - I mean coulsdon south...with its 1000s of addiscombe members lined up. Was pretty cold, but I was convinced it would get warmer, so I took a gamble and stashed a kit with my DS. Bad move ? Looked at the assembled crowd and was the only man or woman in shorts  Still, I was convinced it would eventually get warmer. Marco warned me about Easter knee...when all the fluid in your knee jams up through spring leaving you hobbling by Easter...

Went out with 18 mph group. Mark Ingram was da man ! He was tapping out a steady high speed at the front pretty much all the way. On a FIXED. Man of steel award. His secret - a special porridge diet with extra honey and nuts and a gin and tonic when he gets home. I concentrated on keeping alive the much misunderstood art of wheel sucking. Turned for the cafe with Brian R - also riding a fixie, whilst the others did an extended ride. Brian's cut out the beer and biscuits and is looking a trim 72 kg ! So keep an eye out for that man. I remember a stonking ride back from Brighton he managed to pull out of the bag from nowhere last year ! He's planning a couple of rides at CP...so more power to the ACC race machine.

Caught up with Kevin R in the Charlwood garden...with one of Renata's finest coffees and egg on toast. Kevin was testing out body insulation qualities of his new bling Assos jacket, from GB. He was looking very cool as he sipped his tea 8) We set about important business of planning some training rides during our periods of upcoming paternity leave

Good to see Phil Kemp out - now relocated to sunny Reigate - he's another of ACC's finest wines (52) ...looking younger the Malcolm Eliot (47) and soon to be seen out in a new pair of ACC cycling shorts.

Was sweet talked into riding back via Box Hill and was well impressed with some power riding from Mallorcan team mate Tim Coales :D I can see the ride back via BH is going to get bigger and bigger in the coming weeks.

Discussed with Kieran whether its better to shower first then eat when you get back from a ride or vice versa. We decided its better to do both together...and we are currently designing a food pipe that can pump a liquid lunch into the shower. Any ideas about waterproof foods that can be eaten in the shower welcome

Kieran is a mean rider...and he's just getting stronger.

Discussed the ups and downs of life as a rouleur with Chris Kay - winner of the ACC B Hillingdon road race 2006. He's planning to join me for some 4th cat action !

Just before we got to Box Hill saw cycling supremo George beep past in his big red team van. Was hoping to get a lift but he'd gone before I had the chance to jump in the back ! :(

Crawled up Box Hill...That was a good reality check. Ouch.

But the best bit was I got some sun on my legs at the top as we basked in summery weather 8) Whilst everyone looked like they were having a sauna

Mark M helped out with some energy gel as we rode back to Croydon. The hunger knock was narrowly avoided

I put in a little fiendish dig which resulted in Tim getting caught by traffic, and cycling karma meant I got dropped too

Was reprimanded by the Slim Controller on several counts with my VC role hanging in the balance...but as Toks and Marek know...

ACC is club you can never leave...so I was sacked and re-instated at the Coulsdon cafe courts after buying some coffees to bring the jury around !

Buddha John was at the cafe (J4F) and his fame has spread so wide that he had a CRunner come all the way from Brighton to join his ride ! Fab :D

Got home and did a recovery spin with push chair in the park. Progress is being made ! :D

Sunday - visualised the Old Ports ride while I did a 1 hour loop of col de fontaine, dulwich at 2.20 - 3.20. It was lovely and sunny and I had a chance to get some more 'training camp' tan. 8) Finished off with an espresso in Palace (No more full fat lattes !) Unwound with half a bottle of red wine

Monday - did a 1 hour fat burning spin at the gym - with my heart rate at 120. Felt pretty good, until I realised I was supposed to be in a meeting ! Signs of cyclist obsessive-compulsive disorder are coming back and before I know it I'll be logging onto the wattage thread six times an hour ! :P

Hey Toks...the nearest thing that addiscombe has to its own cycling guru. Maharishi Toks :D
The clouds are clearing, I can see your lean mean contours...
There you are in the land of taps, thresholds, watts, intervals and lactate and
lets not forget your mystical consort, the turbo (kylie ?) :mrgreen

I am just trying to lose a bit of weight before my ramp test on 22nd Feb.
A few guys in the club have suggested I eat more biscuits and turn up obese in xxxl lycra, because then I can only look better once the prog starts in earnest.
But a little bit of vanity means that I don't want to look like I've been hoisted up from a sofa by a crane to a training rehabilitation programme...I'd rather come across as an 'athlete' whose just lost his way a bit ! So hence the fat burning on the spinning bike at 125...Ill add some intervals in next week !

Just back from Dulwich Runners. Leisurely 4.7 miles
Drinks - 1 guiness and 1 Grimbergen.
