Chaingang tomorrow?

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Chaingang tomorrow?

Postby Dominic » Tue Apr 15, 2008 6:36 pm

Is it on? I am asking because I am off work. I am more than happy to wait until the evening but if it is not on I will go out during the day.

Dont think you get much training benefit from it but if that floats your boat.

I will be chainganing tomorrow but am getting over a cold so not sure how I will do.

Well I've done two rides well in excess of 200km in the past 10 days and I definately feel stronger for them.

Perhaps i'm not scientifically physically fitter. But I feel so much more 'at one' with my bike now, it just feels natural to be on it.

I do reckon I can push harder for longer though as a result of those rides. Neither were particularly steady. I solo'd the last 80km of Flanders non-stop and it was a real hard slog after having already ridden 180km in cold sh1t weather. Since then I just feel mentally stronger too, more sure of what I'm capable of maybe.

No single training session is gonna improve your fitness significantly whether short or long. Its a cumulative thing. If you've got the time or inclination to do 200mile rides why not? Done on a regular basis though you'd have to say they aren't very event specific unless your training for 200mile sportivs/races. :D

I would say a 200 mile ride will do more damage than good for Stu who regularly runs out of energy and gets cramp on far shorter rides. He will probably try to do it on 2 bottles of orange squash and end up breaking down muscle mass.

But as you say its up to Stu.

i ended up turning back at reigate.

a tendon at the back of my knee that joins onto the calf muscle got painful last friday when i did the ride with marek because my cleet had slipped. i could feel it twanging again today so i turned back to be on the safe side. im going to rest it and hope its ok for the weekend, and chilham!

Sorry to hear that Stu it sounds like the kind of injury that an ice pack (frozen peas) for 10-15 minutes would help. Get it checked out if there's no improvement after 72 hours.

george entered a time trial by mistake and is doing that, so he said i could have his entry today.... i sent off an entry a while back, but didnt get a place.

but i have been told i have to attend yet another family thing, so i cant do it now. im sure george would let you have it if you dont have an entry paul. i reckon if you just ring up they would let you have it, seeming as its a the same team and all.
