anyone for the TOSH this sunday 16th?

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

This year David Findlay is not involved so I won't be egged on to go too fast. That guy used to blast us on the flats.

Cheers

Excellent day out today the weather was incredible for this time of year. Met at CSS with Mark, Simon C and a new face. Took in Leith Hill (twice), whitedown and box hill then home. Was seriously in trouble on the climbs and Simon C was flying up them. I was struggling to keep up with him at the end once Marek had headed off.

Shame about the Irish girl Jolie (sp?) she must have been only 100m from the top when she turned back.

Fantastic Pie was had by me in Shere.

I hope Marek made it back to East Grinstead there was a big old headwind coming from that direction.

I made it but I was cream crakered by the time I got home. I have 125km on the clock as I stumbled into the house. Simon C is flying up those hills at the moment, Gavin and I were struggling big time to keep up with him. Mind you Gavin had a £5 banoffee pie and I had marmalade on toast and a Mars Bar slice at the Fat Duck Cafe in Shere, hence we were literally waddling up white down.

When I got home I then had to go and buy my daughter a seat for my mountain bike, I had promised I would take her out. Of course then I had to take her for a ride. Hard work cycling up hills with a 2.5 year old wailing at you to go faster. My mountain bike weighs a ton and my daughter adds an extra 18kgs and the seat I bought probably weighs another 5kgs. I think I will have to lose weight or ask the misses to get me a new mountain bike for Xmas.

Think I did about 225km this weekend, now I need a week at work to relax ready for next weekend.

Cheers

Well done Simon mate! Its always good to make Marek suffer if you can. In a perverse kind of way I think he actually enjoys it. However, everyone beware he's (Marek) trying to organise late night training sessions on tuesday's and thursday's from East Grinstead. Oh dear expect terribe pain come 2006.

Ah, you have been spying on me Mr Toks. I have yet to find a training partner but am going out with EGCC next Sunday so will see if I can find someone to endure winter training with me in the evenings.

Where were you on Sunday, I tell you I am in pain today, 225km at the weekend, I am out of shape need to get more miles under the belt over winter so I can kick you skinny ass.

Cheers

Indeed a worrying thought for the first spring club run to box hill.

I am thinking about evening training sessions in the winter but not from East Grinstead.

I was thinking over by Westerham would be good winter training.

Toks, you still doing your 2 hard sessions a week then?

Cheers

Oooh tough talking! 'There's bigger fish to fry' mate. We've both been 3rd cats for two years now. Its time to train hard; get those forty points and become 2nd cats. [quote]Toks, you still doing your 2 hard sessions a week then?
depending on how I feel Gavin, maybe once a week I'll ride hard for about 30 mins. The serious training will probably begin late November.

Toks, I tell you, anything since Rhayder (Epic) seems trivial in comparison. I feel like a changed man!! (won't last long). Have been concentrated on climbing since my last race, I think I'm more of a distance man, but will stick at the racing albeit Italian style. Anyway my winter training is in the Dolomites, so just preparing really  !

Marek/Gav had a good sunday ride cheers, it was a good route (that weather always makes it better), Gav you ride strong, I think your cardio is just a bit erratic, because once your recouperated your pace is fine. stay off the banoffee this winter, might taste nice buts its playing with your lactate threshold!!!

Marek, you had been in the saddle almost an hour longer than us (via EG) and you did the CR, thats alot of miles for a man with responsibilities!
Glad you will be sharing the pain with some other CCers. careful on those dark nights dude.

Hope we will have a few more similar rides before I go, will be out on saturday, perhaps another sunday ride would be good?

Simon,

I am meeting the EGCC at the dukes head roundabout near Copthorne on Sunday morning for a 9.30am start. If you fancy it then why not cycle over. You will then have the similar pleasure that I had of riding back for an extra hour after doing almost 100km. You could even come around to mine for coffee prior to riding home, but I can't promise you Banoffee pie.

Cheers

mmmm, something different sounds good!

c u saturday for the CR? otherwise I'll call b 4

don't think I'll cycle down, wimbledon to East Grinstead must be thirty miles, probably drive it, then mash it round east sussex with fresh legs (much more enjoyable) see how I feel, would struggle for a 9.30 start otherwise

Sorry Simon, only saw my mobile with your message on it after I got back from going out with EGCC.

We cycled over to the hill climb on Yorks Hill. Fantastic atmosphere.

I met a guy from EGCC who is mega strong, his name is Steve Dennis. I have heard rumours about this guy in the past and he certainly lived up to his name.

I got my butt whipped going up nearly everything, this guy did not even look like he was trying and he was on a winter training bike with lights and mudguards etc. Even on the flats I was struggling to keep up. We had to wait at the tops of the hills for the rest of the group who wisely had given up trying to keep up with this guy.

When he decided that it was time to go home and he was in a rush now I mean I was red lining it all the way back into EG from Cowden. When I saw the sign saying 2 miles to EG I thought I would go in front on the flat and wind it up a bit. Unfortunately we then hit a drag and he left me behind. I had to sneakily draft off slow cars to try and catch back up with him which I did eventually on the downhill in EG.

I have to say though he was a really nice bloke to boot, looks like I am going to have a fun winter trying to keep up with this guy. Have replaced Darren and Dave Findlay with a right whippet and I thought I was going to have a sensible winter.

Cheers

No worries Marek, would have been a strain to get to EG anyway.

Sounded too rich for my blood. nice to have a good marker for your winter training activities. Ended up doing a few laps of rich park, and put in my fastest, 18.15 on a crappy windy wet day, so no loss.

Hope this weekend was good for you! crap weather again unfortunately, there was many apuncture on the CR probably almost a dozen!
Tim before the off at the station , myself before the through and off and few more in between.

not the only event of the day, don't want to go into too many details, but anti-bike attitude from motorists had definitley escalated today, with numerous unfortunate incidents, very disturbing indeed... glad I'm off to Italy,
I'm not usually aggressive, but it kin winds me up hugely, and there is no need fo the sh*t we put up with, luckily things didn't get serious but I actually feared for my life moments from home, which is a rareity for me!

Hopefully hook up soon for a ride, I'm free during the week as of 13th Nov if anyone wants to do some riding, some low key surrey hills stuff

I must have missed you guys today. I cycled over to Charlwood, did the reverse Club run basically I did the dual carriageway the other way and then went the short way back to Rusper. It is a lot harder going that way as it seems to be all up hill. I met up with the 17mph group and they told me that I must have just missed the faster group.

Rode to the cafe with them, put in a bit of a spurt to get to the cafe first as I did not want to queue. Then put my head down and cycled back to EG.

Am out tomorrow with EGCC again so should be fun after the amount of beer I have drunk tonight as it iwas my mates birthday. EEEEk

Cheers
