sunday hilly ride

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

[quote="Rob C"]You been to keelongs?

I was in Kelong in the week

Here's what we gotta do one sunday before the season starts

Get some guys out for a mega hilly 3-4 hour R
Meet at my house (S.Croydon) at 10am leave some clothes there
get back and stick the bikes in my place - get changed
Hit the excellent sunday buffet in Kelong - all you can eat for £15 (and after 4 hours in the hills we could eat a lot)

NOW THAT'S A GOOD SUNDAY

HALLELUJAH and AMEN to that!!! :D
Was tempted to join you today guys but one hilly ride a weekend is enough for me at the mo I think especially after my power shortage yesterday. Just a quick ride up to the A217 roundabout and back today for me . I feel I deserved a flat route after yesterdays hills!!! :)

I really enjoyed that, thanks for waiting at the top of the hills. I think we did Ide and Toys from the easier sides though. We can do it the proper way next time but you'll be waiting even longer!

Cheers

Terrific ride cheers Stu and Rob :D

I had an avs of 18.2mph altogether. This was a hard ride and we had some good wheel in wheel duels with Stu up the hills.

The climb up Farthing Downs into the wind at almost stationnery speed was as epic as it gets.

Almost tempted to call in sick tomorrow and see if I can do three of these in a row - good base for the Easter 3 day

Amen to Huw's offer too.

yeh good ride, i got exactly 50 miles by the time i got home.

the wind was very strong, and it was like riding up a hill trying to squeeze your way into it.

rob was strong on the flats, but as the land started to rise the 15 kg weight advantage me and sylv have began to surface.

me and sylv kept together up all the hills, despite attacking eachother. i cant remember the exact number of wins or losses, but i think sylv won 1 or 2 more than me, but never by more than 5 or 6 metres. sylv had the edge on me on the really steep climbs, around the 15-20% margin, and i would only just be hanging onto his wheel, but anything below that and it could go to any of us.

the fist real battle we had was up the bec hill climb hill. sylv got a 15m gap on me near the beggining, but i managed to claw it back, and then come past him. as we hit the last really steep section we were side by side going for the victory with everything we had, but i couldnt quite match sylv and he got his biggest winning margine of the day at around 5 or 6 metres.

we had a good battle up toys hill. sylv attacked me about half way up gaining about 30m, but rasmussen stylie i just upped my speed slightly, and gentley closed the gap on sylv (who was riding as contador today). sat on his wheel for a bit then counter attacked, but i didnt fully commit and sylv got back on. a couple more switching of turns at the front and eventually i won.

the funniest battle for me was up titsey. i led sylv up the first bit of it, and just towards the end of te 16% section sylv came past to take a turn at the front, but i couldnt get onto his wheel. very quickely sylv opened up a significant gap of about 100m. i thought it was over for me, it seemed like there was no way i could close it. but as the hills gradiet lessoned i noticed that sylv was in and out the saddle still, and obviosely suffereing, so i made my biggest effort of the day and managed close gap without sylv noticing until he looked round to see me back on his wheel. we were right near the top, and sylv gave it one last sprint, but i couldnt come round him, my legs were fried after bridging the gap.

after that we took in a couple more hills and headed back home. rob was very strong on the way back, taking more care than me and sylv to take on food, and benifiting from it by how my legs were feeling behind him.

that was a great ride cheers guys.

Not with the little cold I have at the moment, but my climbing has improved a lot over the winter, just ask up-hill finish specialist Dave Kennet

Oh, and have a look at the results from Saturdays races and see who crops up...

Besides, if you had a 9ft table full of glasses up turned in your direction last night, I'm sure you wouldn't have enjoyed thos 20% climbs so much

Cheers, nice to know somebody reads it!

Should have won yesterday, but given how close it was, and how crap I really felt, I'm not complaining.

Pretty bunged up today with this cold, mind you its the first time i've been sick this winter, so can't complain about that either!

Adam,

Are you going to upavon next week? Also, what's the journey time like, I'm guessing it's about 2 hours?

How are the legs this morning? Must have been doing something right, mine are good (if a little cold).

Kasper, here you go

Rob, will probably go next week, if you have a half decent sprint its easy points. Took me about 1hr 15m each way, as I only live 5mins or so from the A3, and I put my foot down! I know the area a little too as my Aunt lives down that way. Its not a bad drive once your on the motorway, M25, M3, A303, A338, A342... and bob's your uncle! Im hoping to nab a lift of someone next week though. As it cost me £20 just in petrol on Saturday!
