5k Running times

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

what!

I consider myself quite fit, I'm reasonably quick over a shorter distance but I don't feel I could get down to or below 18 mins.

I would be happy with 20.

Ithink my quickest is about 22

I have one of those foam rollers for my tight IT bands. Use it every day plus doing my the exercises as prescribed by my physio.

Everyone should have one of these - when Chloe gets on hers the neighbours must think we're shooting a porn video or slaughtering pigs in the flat.

Snoop, Mark is right, register on the Parkrun website first, then you don't have to even sign on on the day

I've registered. Am going to test the running legs today as feeling better, if ok I will do a not-too-fast run with you guys tomorrow. What time do we meet and is it safe to leave the bikes over there then?

If nobody has a car big enough, leave your bikes at the finishing desk at the end of the lap (secure with a cable lock just in case) because the finishing marshals are there taking lap times/finish times etc - then its right there when you finish, throw it over your shoulder, practice your 'cross skills as you run down to the road, then a super-fast transition into your cleats and you can try to catch the training group on the way to Charlwood :D

[quote="huw williams"] cable lock

That prize from the race would have come in handy but it didn't come with a key!

You're right - no mention of keys :

Some little cable-locks

At least if the lock had come open I would have been able to play a nasty joke on someone :wink:

In a way yes, but I think you need to also fit the typical runner's profile, moreso than on the bike. Back in June I did 18.10 with having done one single run in 4 months for all training (I paid dearly the price though as I could barely walk for the next few days). I'm about 4km lighter now so if I can stay injury-free with a bit of training would like to see if I can get down to 17.

I would have thought though that I would fit the runners profile better than most in the club including yourself for that distance given that I am reasonably tall with quite long limbs & relatively thin??

Am I not trying hard enough?
