Pilates

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Well this is all set up to start at 8.30 pm on Wednesday at the club house, around £6 each depending on numbers. I may be a little late but start without me. I will of course bring a camera so only wear your smartest leotards :D

best wishes

Pilates POST CLASS REPORT

Postby Marky Mark » Thu May 01, 2008 9:48 am

Nice to meet Adam, he seems to know his onions when it comes to stretching. As he said, It's not an exercise class as such, and I know I didn't go there for that, I get enough of that on my bike and Turbo.

That was not what I expected, my other half put the fear of god into me as she had done pilates in the past when she used to go to the gym many many moons ago.

I can honestly say that if that is what you call 'proper' stretching, then I have never stretched in my entire life. My personal best for any sort of stretch is probably about 5 seconds with a good trailing wind.

 I think the aim is for us all to try to incorporate some sort of stretching program to aid our cycling and general well being, I can't speak for all of us but I'm probably on my bike at least 5 times a week but do aim for 6, leaving Sunday as my rest day and as the summer is flying towards us at such high velocity this will probably go up to 7 days a week I hope.

I'm just wondering that due to the fact that we WILL all be stretching now as par for the course, :?: would a fortnightly class with Adam to keep us on the straight and narrow and be ample for a sound mind and body?
I can't even remember half the moves we done last night let alone be able to do them every day. So is it best to go for a weekly class? Shall we have a vote on it :?:

It probably depends on the numbers too. If too many people want to do it then having two groups doing alternate weeks would sort that problem out.

I found it relaxing in parts and hard in others, I for one would like to continue as I can feel the benefits and adds another feather to ones cycling bow. Something like that anyway :D .

Cheers for sorting that one out Alan, if anybody else was involved that I don't know about, I'd like to thank you also.
Joyce your extra flexible agreeable cake hit the spot as always, thanks for that. Have you ever tried to knit Shreddies?

All the best, Marky Mark

That was a top session which I'd highly recommend...

Pretty tired at the start (after a pretty good lunctime session on the bike) but felt great after it.

Great work Alan and Adam for getting it together. More please as soon as possible

Good class. Quite uncomfortable walking home afterwards...presumably because bits that have not been mobile for some time had become so. My hip flexors and round the back of my pelvis hurt more than normal today...but that's good isn't it?? Means I've worked them? Ditto shoulders.

Would definitely want to make this a regular feature - I'm far too idle to exercise/stretch at home - but quite enjoy it once I've been cornered like a rat in a trap.

However, I'm a tightwad so would vote for alternate Wednesdays...and would be particularly pleased if it could be the 1st and 3rd Wed of the month (Croydon Mountaineering Club meet on 2nd & 4th Wed).

Thanks Adam - really well thought out class and nice clear instructions....just need to get my body to obey them all now...so, that's shoulders down AND abs engaged AND hands supporting head AND knees not drifting apart.....waah!

Really enjoyed the class last night - it was well paced, nicely varied and excellently tailored to our needs. Thanks to Adam, to Alan for persisting and organising, and to Joyce for the tea and cake.

I thought the hall was more than adequate - notwithstanding the cold floor - for that number of people, and the time of day was ideal, giving people enough time to get there without having to rush. My only criticism would be that the class felt a little short - another 15 minutes or so would have been ideal.

I would be very interested in continuing this on a regular basis. I would be happy to support a weekly class - the more you do of this, the more you get out of it -but understand that getting everyone together once fortnightly is more realistic.

I'd be more than happy to pick Adam and the stuff up next time - he's pretty much on the way for me.

Looking forward to doing this again soon - and to a future without tight hamstrings 8)

Sorry I tried to make off with Jo's mum's car keys

get's my vote - tho I think it would be easier to commit to a fortnightly session. Very good - like Huw I felt a bit jaded before we began - very good afterwards drifting up to great by the following morning :D

Unusual to see us all a tad nervy tho I thought - quite funny that!!

Bring on the next class puhlease 8) Well done Alan and Adam

Thanks for the responses and we keep the comments, feedback and ideas coming coming - so far it has been quite positive.

1. I can foresee a problem with venue if we opt for a weekly event due to other club night activities.

2. I am not sure if Adam is committed to taking us on himself - this was meant to be a taster session to see if there was an interested constituency and I know he works with other recommended teachers and has a pretty full diary himself so we would have to see.

3.Getting to us with the kit is a problem but thanks for the help Connor, although we do have an estimate of the costs of supplying our own kit, but can it be stored at the hall? Perhaps Doug could follow up on this with other committee members?

4. I guess we would need to book a block of sessions - this is the usual form - I pay £60 for 8 sessions and this includes the hire of a hall without which it would be a little less. There is probably a minimum group size below which it isn't cost efficient for the teacher. 15 is the max which usually brings it down to around 12 given absences due to illness etc. this is the number recommended by the relevant association.

Ok, I'll aim to draw some conclusions by the end of next week, liaise as necessary and come up with some proposals.

cheers

The truth would help now and nothing but the truth.

Is it only me, or did you all have a 2 day dalay for the pain to start from that class?

Just the odd rib and stomache muscle feeling it now

Yes! 2-day delay for me too...well...for the abs at any rate. Yesterday had sore hips and stuff...but abs were fine. Today I feel decidedly tender just below sternum.
