Wednesday chaingang from Butlers & Coulsdon

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Jeez you guys don't hang about - was at 7.02 at the Esso garage a couple minutes south of GBs (got out of work early and remembered about the ride as I was passing GB riding my mtb from work - had 10 minutes to get ready).

No-one coming so went to GBs, then to CSS (on the off-chance that someone might've had a puncture there).

It was cold, dark and lonely there so I called it a day. Should have taken my mobile phone.

Excellent drafting opportunities at that time of night on that section of the A23 though!

There was a group out, around 10 I think by the time we left CSS. We did leave fairly prompt from CSS ie 19.20 on the station clock and we were away and that was only because we were waiting for two more who had said they were going to come.

The pace was a bit more sensible than last week but there was still a split by the time we got to Hooley, I stayed in the back group not having either the energy or gearing to keep up with the front group. we stayed together until the Shell garage on a roundabout near Gatwick. I stopped there to get some fresh batteries for my lights before heading back, while Dominic protected my bike from the local yuufs hanging around outside the shop. Coming back into Hooley I was passed by the front group again but couldn't jump on at that speed. Sensible ride all told. 53km in just under 2hrs.

Sylv, I was waiting outside GBs when you went past at about 6.45pm. I was wondering if you were coming out.

I got my legs well and truly ripped off by Adam, Paul and Stu. I knew it wasn't going to last long when I was doing 25mph on the rise from Salfords and they were going away from me. Very enjoyable though.

I ended up going to Longbridge roundabout picked Aodan up on the way back and we came back with im leaving me on the drags. Good fun.

Ah, I hesitated to stop there for a second but was real short on time to get ready so rushed home directly.

George, that's great news. Now, how about someone coming out who I can keep up with?

George, stop crashing and bend those forks back to a sensible angle!

I intend to be out on the chaingang... Although Im in Chatham in the afternoon, and not sure what time I'll be home. So if im not at CSS by 19.20 on the station clock... don't wait for me!

I will be there on the condition George doesn't fit his tri-bars to the shopping bike.

Now let's see, a chaingang with George, Paul, Slyv and Stu dishing out the punishment or there's a big metal vice in our workshop which I could stick my b***s in and tighten up fully.

Which would be less painfull?

No contest, its the vice for me

Huw, stop being a tart... you'll get a good steady wattage, even in a group... no doubt!

I thought this was not quite as hardcore as a Saturday training ride?
