Turbo Trainer

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Turbo Trainer

Postby Paul H » Wed Feb 20, 2008 10:33 am

Could somebody recomend and decent trainer for me.

Ive got a Tacx mag at the moment and the resistance increases too much when I change gear and it doesnt feel like the road. As I got a powertap, I dont need a monitor/display.

I was think about a fluid trainer.

Cheers
Yes, you guessed it. My lovely ultra high tech, ultra reliable KK computer went schizoid during the 2nd interval and re-calibrated itself to a 26" wheel size.

There's nothing more fiddly than trying to reset a KK computer whilst pedaling at 90 rpm with a hear rate of around 170 while swearing out loud and immediately regretting it cos it takes too much oxygen.
This is the third KK computer I've had since November and each one has had to be sent back due to various anomalies like the buttons not working and the thing resetting to 0 whenever it feels like it.
p.s don't buy a kurt kinetic

There's no denying the cycle computer KK offer for an extra £25 isn't the best ,however you can solve that problem by replacing it with a rear cyclocomputer and working out your wattage from speed via the easy conversion chart.

So if you ain't got much time to train, can't afford a coach, slightly attracted by the idea of knowing you power output so you can measure improvements, and most importantly, want to ride a trainer that feels (none of that pedalling through mud feeling  ) like the road KK Road Machine is the one to get.

Not being an expert on turbo trainers.... is it better to have a trainer with adjustable resistance? or doesn't that matter at all? Hadn't really thought about it but I noticed that the KK page described the resistance as changing with speed.

ok, but that's just complaining about the quality of the extra computer not the trainer itself.

Paul you've got a power tap mate so the cyclecomputer is not even a issue. Go for the KK "Road Machine" i bet you'll find you can stay on it longer than 30 mins. George is just jealous cause he knows I'm gonna win at Palace this year without riding on the grass

Unless you're gonna be riding a fixie on the turbo I don't see the point. If you want resistance change gears

Is that a euphemism for racing after using some Jamaican doping agents?
