Race Prep: What works

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Race Prep: What works

Postby Toks » Fri Mar 21, 2008 5:05 pm

Hi guys,

I'm interested to see what works when leading up to an event (TT, RR, Sportiv) you want to do well in. Lots of people recommend, decreasing volume and intensity but keep riding, some say take the day before the event off or indeed don't take the day off before the event but in fact taking the day before off instead. I hope that makes sense. I've tried this and it suits me well. So if your not using the event as training, where you would obviously not bother resting, how do you ensure a good performance on the day?

i usually have the day before the day before off. so i go out for a gentle 2 hours the day before (easy club run type). my legs then feel nice and loose the next day.

but then like the week before last i raced 2 days running and my legs felt fine. if i ride hard/race the day before another race i make sure i eat something straight away, so that the glycogen gets absorbed into my muscles (i heard about it somewhere). when i get home i then have a bath and then put on this recovery Ozone stuff that makes your legs freezing, but then really refreshed!
