Chaingang Lite?

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Chaingang Lite?

Postby Snoop Doug » Mon Apr 21, 2008 2:40 pm

Been hearing a lot about how much benefit folk can get from this method of training, and I like the sound of it cos it's intense and that suits me time-wise. Trouble is I reckon I could probably hang on to our full fat chaingang for about a mile max  .

Chatting to Dominic after the SCCU 25 he says the chaingang goes in excess of 25mph, so I was thinking I wonder if we could knock out say 20/22...? I've no idea if I could manage but I'm sure willing to try. Hands up anyone else who might fancy it and we'll see about sorting something out. I can't make this Weds but could kick something off next week if there's interest...?

Away next Wednesday Snoop but would be up for it after that (at least until Herne hill starts). Have only hung on (on my 2 occaisions) to the full jobbie until about the M23 turn-off max. Would be a good idea if we could do one as a 4th cat / just over the 1 hr to 1h10 25' pace "gang". Full "fat" chaingang is a mix of under the hour 25 and good 2nd cats when I've been there so a bit too much.

I'm up for this too.

Feeling a bit left out - my other half has got plenty of sooper fast people to ride out with and I don't do sooper fast, so I can't go out and have fun with them.....if chaingang, training group, xtra fast long hilly rides etc are fun???

Possibility of doing next Wednesday too Snoop if you are up for it.

How about this then. I believe that the Chaingang is now training down on the Newchapel circuit on Weds nights. Well, I have a little group here in East Grinstead that are up for a bit of speedy training. 2 of them are not up to speed to keep up with Keith and I, so when we go out training we tend to wait on the hills. But, if there were enough of you that got down to the Newchapel circuit on Weds, we could have two groups training around the circuit. We could even treat it like a handicap, so slower guys head off first and then the fast guys have to try and catch them and then you try and stay with the fast guys as long as you can once they have caught you.

Think we are doing it this Weds, so whatever you ability turn up for the fun.

Cheers

Great idea Marek but unlike Ian it's too far for me to get to in time, and after commuting would make it a bit of a long trip. I think part of the reason the chaingang has taken off well is starting at CSS and keeping as a simple chaingang up and down the A23 everyone knows where they are and can get to it easily, tends to fairly central startpoint for most wherever you come from.

Count me in if it starts at CSS, I like the sound of Mareks chaingang but its a bit of a trek to get down there for me.

Andrew, I think it still starts at CSS, but then just goes through the lanes to Newchapel. Paul H was telling me about it at the weekend, I have asked him to post the exact details so expect a long wordy email from Paul soon.

Cheers

Not wishing to steal Paul's thunder but if it is the same as last week, the meet is in Bletchingly and the meet time last week was 6.30pm. Not sure I will be able to make it if it stays at that time as I don't technically finish work until 6pm :(

I think for now we'll do this from CSS if this Newchapel place is en route and people want to use it then why not indeed we can build that in once we're humming along nicely. So - I have a couple of qs. What is a suitable start time? How many folk do you need for this to work effectively?

7 to 7:15 at CSS was t'other one which gives enough time for most people to get there from work yet not have it finish too late.

Minimum 2 and ride as a 2-up, probably no more than 8 or it might get a bit much for charging up and down the A23 and annoy too many motorists. If you get more, say 10 then probably better to run as two 5s. 4 - 6 probably ideal to keep pace high, yet get a bit of recovery between pulls.

I can meet people at CSS on the way. Whats the earliest people can do? It would be nice to finish while it is still light.

Could we do 6:30 at CSS and 6:45 at Bletchingly?

We will do a steady ride to Newchapel and then thru and off on the Handicap Circuit letting the slower group go first.

The circuit is only about 3 miles long so is perfect for a group ride of mixed abilities as anybody who gets dropped can sit up and pick up the group when it comes round again.

If you want to race at any level, you need to do this ride.

Wordy enough for you?
