Hilly 50 from Rykers Cafe

Excellent ride. Turned up at Rykas to see a bunch of Agreeables already signed in so handed over my cake money and got a map. Lost Amy and some others at the start so set off up Ranmore chatting to Robyn and Phil and then somehow lost them too as our big early peloton spread out on the hill. After that it was a fast descent to Dorking, up towards Leith and up and down a few other hills, including one comedy slope that must have been pushing 25%+ at the top, before White Down, a blast along the top of Ranmore, back down and the final ascent of Box. Nice round of applause as I crested Box; which turned out to be for a Ballbuster.
Forgot to sign back in at the finish as there was a marshall from the Ballbusters having a frilly at the car park entrance so chatted to Brian and some other CR Agreeables before heading back home. Whole ride including there and back was 4 hours so average 14.1 mph and 2.5 hrs approx for the Hilly 50. (It was a metric 50)
Nice change from the CR but missed the bacon sarny.

Yep, that was a good ride Some really lovely lanes (apart from the surface) that I have been down (or up) for awhile. As the organiser, Simon Legg, said, some roads were borderline horrendous - some places were so bad that I thought I'd turned up some cart track

Rode it better than I expected - especially White Down. Beat Phil H up there which was a surprise as he'd been going strong up till then. Did start out with a few others and I waited with them for the slower climbers but Phil and I decided that it was too cold to hang around too much and pushed on with me doing most of the directing - 'Right!' 'Which way do we go?' 'RIGHT!!' And anyway I wanted to see how close I was to my best time round it.

Think I must have been close as Phil said we taken about 2 hours 40/45min and my fastest was under 2.5hrs and we'd spent at least 10-15 mins with waiting and a couple of stops to check the route.

Really pleased I did it, should help with building my strength back up Shame some people are put off by the 'hilly' bit but it is Surrey and there's not too much flat in Surrey and you really are missing some good riding.

Looking forward to the Spring Onion as it goes DOWN White Down and then onto some more lovely lanes I haven't seen in awhile...

Oh but I do want that house with the garden and swimming pool looking out south over the Weald. It's one of those swimming pools where the pool goes right to the edge of the drop so you can swim (doggie paddle in my case) right to the side of the pool and just look straight out over the side of hill...

Dom, that comedy slope - was it the one where the bank had slipped, just past the Volunteer pub? That's Raikes Lane coming out of Sutton Abinger.

PS, Ian, I didn't do anything this time - Mark Leedham wanted to ride and just as I thought about putting a reminder up, Lee asked if anyone was riding it. You're the only one I can claim to have made ride it . Lee, don't remember seeing you Were you there? Hoped you enjoyed it!
