Dunsfold 3rds 14 March

Richard Hosking and myself did the above today.

Richard went off the front near the end of the first lap and joined another rider up the road. They were dangling in front of the bunch but were not making much ground and when another 2 riders tried to gap them, I decided to part company with the bunch and offer my services. I gave the 2 chasers a shout as I approached them but they could not hold onto my wheel so it was just Richard, Myself and another rider.

I was not over happy with it being just 3 of us with such a long way to go but nobody else was coming over so we decided to crack on. We never built up a large gap and with 4 laps to go, it was 65secs. With 2 laps to go the other rider had had enough and dropped off the back leaving myself and Richard who was also now suffering but still doing his turns at the front. Unfortunately on the last lap we were caught by the peleton and shortly after, an exhausted Richard had to pull over to throw up. I drifted to the back of the bunch, pulled over to pick up my water bottle I discarded earlier and trundled over the line at the back of the field.

Not a success but had a nice long enjoyable break in good weather.

In the afternoons 2/3 race Marcus claimed second spot, well done mate!

Seemed a bit busy at Dunsfold yesterday

I rode through it as part of the Spring Onion sportive and there was a running race going on. I'd already seen the signs for the road race and guessed there was a race on in the afternoon - and sure enough, rode past the village hall and saw a load of roadies hanging around though didn't see any ACC tops.

Cheers Toks, it was an eventful race and didn't go quite as I planned, but I was happy enough with the outcome after a Dynamo put me on the floor at the bell!! He did apologise and is buying me some new cleats at least.

It was certainly busy there with horses in the morning stopping / slowing the race. A 10km run race 200yds from the finish of ours plus a sportive running the opposite way. The surface conditions were better by all accounts than Crowhusrt though.

Goood effort to Paul and Richard - it was quite windy yesterday and hard work out there.

Well done all round, shame Richard and yourself couldn't stay away Paul but I much prefer reading about a break away than a sitting in the bunch report .

I think Julian may have been 1st cat in the past and he was looking strong on Sunday. As Dave said he knows how to read a race and he's quite canny. He stopped working so much on the last few laps and allowed his team-mate to do more turns. I saw him biding his time and knew he was likely to attack. He did shout at me to go with him in one move but my legs weren't feeling so good after my chute.

Once he got across to Stu Fahey in the last 2-3km, he expected to really struggle, but Stu had burnt a lot of matches earlier and was just going steady, but consistently fasty whilst the break failed to chase cohesively. I think Julian was more comfortable than he expected and they worked together to the finish at which point Julian had a few more matches left and stayed clear whilst we reeled in Stu.

Good result for Julian who had been away from the initial move and worked hard to get the break going then used his head to get the result.

It'll be Dave soon though - I'm sure.
