I committed to pull together a group to look at the kit questions, ie:

design, manufacturer, supply outlet to the club.

I didn't get started on this yet, due to some difficult circumstances in my personal life. I hope to be in a position to start work on these issues later in the spring/summer.

If you want to help, please volunteer below. My expectation is to hold an evening meeting every 2 or 3 weeks for a total of about 6 meetings to pull together the necessary research information to make a proposal to the club's committee.

The kit was last changed in 2003, so we're well beyond a 5 year cycle - which would be too quick a turnaround anyway. I'll admit I'm not keen on our kit - it's too fussy - the 'www..etc.' is dated now, as are the greeny/black swirls. Perhaps the key to good design is a 'classic' - rather than an up-to-date or (spare us) 'retro' - look. Simple is best.

Having said that, I'd rather wear ours as it is until the end of time than don the fluorescent yellow horror a rider on yesterday's Burgess Hill sportive had on (I think it was a Brighton club). The bib tights were nasty. Ours really isn't so bad.

I know, Grahame - it's time to stop talking and get on with the meetings.

Perhaps the key there is a "refresh" for the current design. i.e. keep the same colours layout, but remove some of the fussy details.
That way the existing kit will still look in sync, but the new ones will look a little snappier?
I'll have a dabble with the paint pot when I (/if I ever) finish work.

I don't have too many problems with the existing kit, but as a sometime graphic (but not clothing) designer, I would also tend to simplify it a little.

I wonder if the bands on the shoulder cuffs are required, for example. I'd probably also switch the typeface from Optima and simplify the "greenish-black bits" - they are actually screened tints of yellow and black but do appear greenish. I do like the Norwood kit (yes, I know they changed theirs to look more like ours).

I'm keen on Ivor's idea that the kit would be similar enough to stand alongside the current kit for a while at least. I think that implies keeping the same shade of yellow/gold, and if you changed supplier that might well be difficult.

I will also try to put my money where my mouth is and fire up Illustrator. But I would also suggest the final design be put together by someone with experience of designing cycling kit, as what looks good on a flat layout won't necessarily look as good when wrapped around a rider.

Now, I'd go with a simplification of the kit...

The trouble with that approach is that the kit will look even more like NP kit from a distance.
Arrrgghhh No No it musn't look like their kit (or at least their old one YUK!)

Perhaps you lot need to get your eyes checked - let's see what the designers come up with

I think we could be more economical with time. 2 meetings, the first to decide what if anything to commission, to whom and with what covering instructions. The second to receive results and render to committee with recommendations of group. The rest can be done via emails. Committee to decide.

Please please can we get the kit changed, it's well past its expiry date, and now the butt of many jokes in certain cycling circles!

thanks snoop, I've got nothing new to say really so like many new amateur bloggers I thought it best to call it a day. Here's a few racing and training blogs from South East racers checkout from time to time. Alex, however, is an Auzzie Racer and Coach

[quote="Sean Hogan"]Quite a few things could do with updating, not just the club kit.

With these things being?

Nothing that anybody with a life would laugh at. Even pro-kit is little more than a load of adverts on a garish background. Caisse D'Epargne have the best kit; and anything that Lance Armstrong wears also gets my vote, obviously.
