Alternative Club Run

Postby PeteS » Thu Mar 25, 2010 12:35 pm

This Saturday we're heading down into the Surrey lanes avoiding main roads and always waiting for anyone who gets dropped. We plan to stop at a choice of 2 nice cafes depending on the weather and who's out. If you fancy an agreeable ride with people who don't take life too seriously then please join us when the 'Alternatives' are called at CSS.

Pete I would love to but I'm busy this weekend and planning an off road ride the following week. I hope to join you soon.

For those who have not been on this ride before I thoroughly recommend it. I've been part way round once before and it's a road less travelled with a nice bunch of people and some great scenery to boot.

Enjoy!

It won't be an epic tomorrow, steady ride down to a cafe in Lingfield then back through the lanes home around 12-12.30. Next week though, will be a longish hilly ride through the Surrey Hills a few climbs but lovely countryside and a good (if a bit expensive) cafe in Shere.

PeterS lead a group of twelve on the Alternative club run, they were Ian, Phil, Jon, Steve, Pete, Simon, Ashley, Chris, Brian, Paul and myself. We headed for Lingfield via Farthing Down, most of the lanes were familiar with the only new one to me being Enterdent Rd, a gentle climb. Everybody in the group was fit and we were lucky this week not to have any mechanicals or puctures. In Lingfield we stopped at Joyce’s Tea Rooms, very appropiate, (another find by PeteS) and had our drinks and cakes. After the stop we were lead along rapidly by Jon, Steve and Paul until a near head on collision on one of the lanes, that cooled everyone down and we proceeded at a manageable pace after that. Tilburstow Hill, followed by White Hill were difficult with some of us thinking of turning off half way up White Hill, but as some had already gone ahead we thought it best to follow. After a short rest outside The Harrow pub it was all more or less down hill to Coulsden for a well deserved cup of coffee. Another very enjoyable ride with the Alternatives, good lanes, hills and company all thanks to PeteS.
