Members Discounts

Postby Phil N » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:52 pm

Hi All,

I am in the process of confirming with suppliers the discount structure they are offering to club members so that we can publish this information on the website. Obviously we cannot publish suppliers details until we have a formal agreement with them. This I have now received from all our usual discounted suppliers.

Over the next week I will be passing the details to Elliot for publication on the website for all members to see.

Obviously a prerequisite will be the production of a valid membership card before the purchase is made.

If any member knows of a supplier who may be interested in offering a discount to members, please PM me the details or email me at membershipsecretary@addiscombe.org and I will contact them on behalf of the club.

Please DO NOT mention the supplier here as we cannot publish their details until we have a written agreement from them.

Cheers,

Phil N

Hi all,

The details of members discounts have now been published on the website in the membership section:

http://www.addiscombe.org/membership/

There is a link to the website of each supplier.

If you have any problems with any of the suppliers please let me know.

Cheers,
Phil.
Membership Secretary

P.S. Thanks to Elliot for all for all his work on the website.

In Pearsons this afternoon Guy Pearson denied any such agreement on discount so maybe it needs to be scrobbed from the website?

Hi Alan,

Really sorry to hear this!

I spent some time contacting suppliers by email to confirm the arrangements.

I had a confirmation from William Pearson of the discount for our members, hence the website link.

I will contact Pearsons and see what is going on!

I'll post back here as soon as I have a reply.

Phil.

P.S. Elliot leave weblink as is until I find out what is going on.

OK, let me know. Just spent £530 on fixie. My decision to go there was in part due to the discount offered. To be fair he did discount some of the parts, I think to the tune of about £35 whilst insisting that there wasn't any discount for any groups including their own team, so maybe it is a communication problem between father and son. Haven't paid yet so if you get a result let me know, thanks, Alan

Any update on this topic ?

I have to admit that Pearsons have always maintained they don't discount, I still bought my Touche (single) from them last year (because I just had to have it - and i'm not sorry) but I wont use them for any other kit, I usually get quotes from them now just to see how much cheaper I can get it.

As a case in point they quoted me £180 on a pair of DuraAce pedals earlier this week (which they said they would reduce by 10% as that's what I would find online) but I can see duraace 2010 pedals online for less than £120 so they are still making a packet even with that generous %10 discount.

I would hardly say Pearson's make a packet or over charge. They are a local bike shop and have a lot of overheads to cope with that a warehouse buying certain items in large bulk numbers on a suburban industrial estate doesn't. They won't be able to compete on price alone with some online places but they have more knowledge than most places and provide superb sales and aftersales service, the best I have ever received.

I regularly choose to use them and Guy has often discounted based on the purchase price and what he can do based on what deals he has got. In their position they may not be able to apply blanket discounts on everything.

Guy and William are brothers and I can well imagine William agreeing to something and not mentioning it, let alone discuss with his brother, Guy, who's the steady, sensible one (William being like an excitable puppy  )

I find Pearsons cheaper than GBs - and I've been getting a discount with them for years... I think it's a personal discretion type of thing, though.

I bought a chainset in GB's and George refused to give me 10% discount

But then it was a Chorus 10 speed triple for £49 !!!!!!!!

Pearsons (Guy) has always given me 10% discount, but as a regular customer rather than a member of Addiscombe. I think if you ask him, he is quite open to discounting, but in the commercial world, there is only so much he can do - which is probably why he doesn't give a blanket ACC offer.
