Easter Monday

Postby Andrew G » Sat Apr 03, 2010 4:06 pm

I've got a TT entry to post over at Carshalton and will do it on Monday and continue on for a ride. I'll look to pass through Croydon at 9.30, do a few miles to get home at about lunchtime-ish (1-2ish), and ride a reasonable pace.

If anyone wants to join me post a reply and we can sort out where/when to meet. I have no idea where I'll be going after Carshalton (probably be largely main roads over to there) but the important details are above :) .

PS It's an entry for the SCCU 25 should any others want to post there entries, need to be in by Tuesday.

I'll probably drop down to Chipstead and then go through Betchworth and some of the CR to Colgate and perhaps visit some of the Greens.

Might be better to meet you near Carshalton or Chipstead, I can call you when I'm near there.

Cool. Give me a bell when your nearing Carlshalton and I'll meet you there somewhere, perhaps by the mini roundabout by the ponds?

Need to give my legs a work out

Thanks chaps, nice ride today. We woz 'ere.

I met Ben and Alan in Selsdon for the ride over to Carshalton, where I posted my TT entry and we met Ant. We then set off for Chipstead Valley and headed out through Betchworth, Newdigate, and Rusper, before heading over to Colgate. From here we decided to do a bit shorter ride as it was very windy so swung left just before Doomsday Green and over to Slaugham and then climbed up Coos Lane to Handcross. Ben may have mentioned that we covered some of these lanes on a few Brighton return rides but he didn't say it very often so i can't be sure  .

A bit of B road blasting from here to Turner's Hill passing the beautiful Worth Abbey. We'd had some light drizzle early on but then it brightened from about Rusper/Colgate with the sun popping out from time to time, and it was out as we passed the Abbey which looked really rather nice with a bit of blue sky behind it.

From Turner's Hill we were off to Domewood before cutting up through Smallfield and then climbing up the downhill of the Bletchingley circuit (Coopers Hill Rd). Unfortunately we lost Alan here as when we regrouped at the top Ben said that Alan's computer had fallen off his bike and he'd retraced to try and find it. We waited about 10 minutes Alan and I sent you a text to say we were making a move but don't know if you got it. I hope you found your 'pooter and didn't have to retrace too far.

We finished the ride with a drop in to Merstham and then the run down to Coulsdon.

I good fairly hard ride with a nagging head wind for quite a lot of it and plenty of rolling countryside. Good company though 8) and glad to be out and about on the bike

Thanks for a great ride today folks. Enjoyed myself. Glad I did this and not the usual club run on sat, made a refreshing change. Took in some lovely quiet lanes, weather was pretty kind to us and we kept ourselves amused as the miles ticked by. Legs felt ok despite over a week off the bike though nothing to punishing on the route we took.

More of the same please. :D

Yep, It was a good ride out marred slightly by me having to backtrack 5 miles to find my Garmin, which I eventually did. So by the end I think I had almost 80 miles mostly protected from a stiff breeze by Andrew and Anthony. Thanks Guys. Was out again today, 87 more miles and by now am feeling a tad weak!
