Bibshorts Recommendation

Postby Marek » Sun Apr 04, 2010 9:34 pm

So, I have a couple of pairs of Assos shorts. They are very good, but I need to get a couple more pairs of decent bib shorts for long distance riding when I go to the Pyrenees in June. Now, I am tempted to just go for the Assos, but something inside me is saying that £200 for some lycra and a pad is a bit over the top, and two pairs is £400.

Of course, I realise that these shorts are protecting some important parts of the anatomy, but does anyone out there have something that compares well to the Assos but is around half the price.

Before you suggest I have tried the following:

Shorts with Coolmax pads - These are ok, but for longer distances they don't tend to hold up that well (or should I say the butt does not).
Northwave Zpeed - These are quite uncomfortable on a longer ride, find the pad has poor stitching and therefore tends to hurt a bit on a longer ride.

Cheers

Marek.....

I'm very happy with my Gore Xenon Sonic shorts. I prefer them to my Assos F1 Uno (I realise these aren't £200 Assos shorts).

I've found the Skins bib-shorts really good, half the price of Assos

Get some Astana kit from GBs sale. Half price at 30 sovs for the shorts, 35 for the jersey.
I got some. just need to grow a tache and i'm a dead ringer for Borat :D . High five!
otherwise get assos - last forever and after sales service second to none

Marek, you've got kids already, so you don't need to protect those parts anymore

Cannondale LE Carbon are pretty good and, though not cheap, still a good buy compared to Assos. The longs are good as well.

Most people on other forums seem to suggest that the Giordana Tenax Carbon Bibshorts are pretty close to Assos

I like the Santini shorts and have got on well with the dhb 3/4s and tights so will probably try some of those too. I have a basic rule of avoiding anything with an anotomic pad as they tend to be rubbish. No idea who they're anatomically designed for, not me that's for sure.

Giordana BodyClone are good too if you can still get them.
