Cancellara - absolutely superb - magnificent - majestic. :D :D :D

I love Paris-Roubaix (and if I'm honest all of the classics). Unfortunately despite the spectacle, the crowds, the atmosphere it turned into a bit of a procession for last 50 kms. Only Boonen appeared to want to make a race of it. Really disappointed that eight top riders couldn't or wouldn't work together and allowed Cancellara to make an unbridgeable gap (and i'm taking nothing away from Cancellara - a great attack - a fantastic ride - thoroughly deserved the win - he is in a league apart at the moment - and would have won whatever). I would just have liked to have seen more of a contest. Flecha and co = lacking ambition = pants.

don't think whatever they did would have made a difference Jon. Cancellara was looking around and was well aware of what people were doing so knew that he'd catch them off guard at that point. Boonen was the next best but tired himself out with his attacks and when he did attacks Cancellara just cruised up to his wheel with ease. When Fab attacks at that speed no-one can hold his wheel, certainly not for the distance he can hold it.

Very happy he won and a great two weeks for Hammond showing some of the young'uns how to do it.

At 2.14 and BANG! (make sure you listen to the commentary just after  ).

Adrian, what was the guy saying after 2.14? :D

'Just when Boonen was daydreaming a bit back there, he (Cancellara) goes off like a steam train. Ooh-la-la, etc.' :D

Is it a bit cynical of me to think that two such "incredible" rides by Cancellara in 8 days is a bit, well, incredible?

No - you can't not think about it,
Innocent till proven guilty though,
I will burn my Assos Swiss Cross jersey if it happens though (or more likely sell it on ebay)

Yes a bit. Does that means all the other 9 double winners were on the juice too?

Not necessarily. I'm just cynical about somebody's ability to ride away from most of the world's greatest road racing talent twice in 8 days. An incredible racer. No accusations, just saying.

You could argue that for the recovery but his power output is astronomical. Would EPO or equivalent drugs aid power like that? Surely, it's just raw talent.

Brilliant rides from a fantastic rider I reckon.

Boonen said post race that Flecha said he was happy to ride for second place and wouldn't chase. Boonen feels that even with Cancellara riding witha rocket up his ar*s (his words) if several riders would have worked together they could have pulled him back. At least they could have tried. It's their complete lack of ambition that made cancellara's win so emphatic. Boonen was very unhappy.

It was the "Ooh-la-la" I liked, I guessed it was the same in English, just tickled me.

Boonen mucked it up big time basically.

And yes, it was very eye brow raising performance, much like many of the guys who I'm up against... who aren't getting tested every week.

...could do. Hasn't Major Tom been nabbed for coke three times so far? That's a powerful message the UCI are sending innit. What might he have been masking with it, or coming down from, or whatever. There are still too many damn cheats in this sport. Long may they rot, preferably in another sport (former cycling drug cheats tiddlywinks has a nice ring to it), or even better a prison ship permanently moored three miles off the coast near Skegness.

Lovely sunny day eh?

What time is the Liege-Bastogne-Liege coverage on? Shall I speak to the Lindfield and see if we can do another Big Screen showing? Steve the guv'nor says he's got the link sorted so can do it on big projector now instead of the telly in the bar. He'll also do some food for us if we like (he did rather good spread for the darts final - chicken legs & wings, chips, sausage rolls, chicken on a stick (not in Marky Mark's league but nice nonetheless), onion rings in batter etc ). It ain't the most salubrious location but the beer's cheap and the locals are fairly friendly. Could be a nice day out - either race and/or marshal the ACC 25 in the morning (still could do with some more helpers btw) and then toddle back to Addiscombe for an afternoon watching LBL.
