Hillingdon 6th April - Race 1

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Hillingdon 6th April - Race 1

Postby MattD » Tue Apr 06, 2010 12:40 pm

Now the fun starts !

I'll be riding over to Hillingdon for first race of the new season - I'll be leaving Spitafields in the City outside Cycle surgery in Bishops Square for 5.15 if anyone wants to join me.

For those that dont know the event is run in the following way .

Race Start - Usually at about 7.15 pm
Race Location - UB4 0LT See link below
Circuit - 0.93 mile closed road facility designed specifically for cycling
Format - 2 races starting within 1 minute of each other . 4th Cats released first , followed by E123 ( neither races are allo0wed to join up )
Length - Light permitting , early season rides last 45 mins , increasing to 1 hour 20 plus .

This is a great event for beginners to learn the ropes of crit riding ... if you can ride in the 18's i suggest this is doable.... A race license is required to race , but you can buy a temporay license on the day .

For me its a great early season workout , a warm up ride to the event , and and warm down ride home via Clapham

Hope to see some of you there !

Is anyone going over to Hillingdon next Tuesday? I might try entering the 4th cats as I think it may be better for me than the women's race at palace which gets very broken up quite quickly and gets neutralised every time one of the other bunches overtakes it.

I'd be happy if I can just stay with the bunch for a few laps, but we'll see. At the moment I'm just keen to get some experience racing, so am looking to try different things without worrying too much about the result.

I'm almost certainly going to the Hillingdon Grand Prix on Sunday 16th, and Goodwood on Sunday 30th May. If anyone else is I'd be glad of the company, and potential for lifts! :)

Glad to hear you're still up for racing Bridget. Can I strongly suggest you get down to Hillingdon on a Thursday evening for their excellent coached 'race training sessions' (only £3) - there's often a woman's friendly group time (6.30-8pm). I might even persuade a certain young lady to come and join you
