Alternative Club Run

Postby PeteS » Fri Apr 23, 2010 8:31 am

By popular request, we're going along the Pilgrims Way into Kent tomorrow with a stop at our favourite cafe with the best cake and other attractions. Once again, this is a mixed friendly group always waiting at the tops of hills and keeping together on the flat. Unfortunately, due to popular demand, we can only take the first 100 riders who come forward at CSS!

Ian, could you pretend to be me and pick up a parcel for me from somewhere between Redhill and Merstham?

I'm hoping to catch you guys up maybe somewhere between Chaldon and Caterham...

I suppose you've been loungeing around some pub somewhere with Mr Avery ogling the barmaids  Yep, can see why he likes the cafe at Brasted

Another good ride with a few lumps thrown in - mixed group with a range of abilities. 'Newbie' Alex was having a problem with the hills and even had to tell me to slow down on our way back. Sorry Alex, hope you're feeling recoverd now. Hope you will be back out and even try some of my rides!

Having ridden down to the outskirts of Redhill, I decided not to try and make it to CSS and decided to head to Chaldon and await Pete and co there. Got a bit cold waiting but I felt it better than hacking it up the Merstham drag and along the main road. Surprised Steve Fortune and another after the climb up Shepherd Hill

Had to bail out with Alex (who had to get back to the carpark for 1pm) and John as I thought I'd better spend the afternoon baking. One cake down, the second is in the oven but should be out soon... Cat is baking in the afternoon sun

I see they've improved the road surface the other side of Marden Park - honest!! Got caught on the wrong side of the bend turning out up Gangers and had to do about 3 restarts after my shorts caught my saddle on the 2nd attempt... Still overtook and caught a few.

Few more rides like that and I should be able to start getting back up to speed too :D Lovely being back on the Enigma, that helped.

Cakes not turned out as well as last time - needed slightly lower heat for banana bread and I forgot the baking powder for the sponge :(

I must say a big thankyou to Dallas , i missed the turn off at toys hill, and yup you guessed it rode down to the bottom to be told by Dallas who had chased after me that we had to ride back up to where the others were waiting :( I was disapointed in Steve W who missed the oppitunity of some extra training :D But also a big thanks to all who went on the ride and made it a great day out , great ride, and fantasic coffee stop

Watched you go and thought do I really want that 241 metres of climbing pain today. Nah :( That will teach you to go steaming ahead.
Well done Dallas for catching him before he got back to Croydon.

Great day out on the bike again. Thanks Pete for working out the route and thanks Rob for the donation. :D
