60+ years of (almost) uninterupted single party governments (usually elected on a minority of votes cast) haven't been particularly successful in driving the UK economy forward relative to our competitors. Let's look at the facts. Of the 17 most "successful" economies (measured by size (GDP per capita), and sustained growth), 12 have governments elected by proportional representation, and of those, 10 are almost always governed by coalitions.
I think a period of consensus government may actually be a good thing, and am hopeful that one of the outcomes will be a move to a more representative form of democracy.
