Army CU Tandem 10

Postby George » Sun May 09, 2010 9:24 am

Paul and I dusted the tandem off yesterday afternoon for an attempt at the club 10 record of 20.48 down on the P881 course near Petersfield in Hampshire.

The weather was a bit grim on the day with drizzle and wet road and a brisk Northerly wind which made the leg to the turn quite hard especially as this was slightly more uphill then the run in.

We started off the last of 4 tandems all spaced a minute apart and managed to reel in no.3 within 3 miles  , we were really tanking along and working well together.

Then just before the turn we caught and passed no.2 which was a good feeling as we sailed towards the offslip.

The turn was quite tight and Paul really took it almost too gingerly for safety s sake. We soon got back up to speed again and with the help of the wind behind on the run in to the finish we were well over 30mph all the way.

At one point just as we were passing the petrol station on a fast downhill I shouted to Paul "MORE GEARS" he later told me we were already in the 62/11 at 45mph

Finally passed no.1 our 3 minute pair with 2 miles to go and we both really felt the burn on the run in to the finish in our legs

Well did we do it, did we get the record?

20.57 :)
Not quite but we both felt it was a dam good try in those conditions, a shame we missed the record by 9 seconds but we'll get it next time.

All the other tandems did 24's so we took 3-4 minutes out the lot :D

A short time only beaten by one or the top 2 solos on the day, I rekon the course was running close to a minute slower than the week before :o

Paul said it was his best workout all year reaching a new HR max.

Great effort-just need a better day and the record will be yours.

Bad luck guys, as Terry says it's yours on a half decent day yesterday was a shocker.

It must have been very iffy as Paul's not shy of/or slow on a turn.
