Venue Newchapel Village Hall, Horne @ 7.15pm Thursday May 20

Addiscombe CC are promoting this round of the Surrey League evening handicap series, we need to lay on all the marshals, 2 race lead vehicles, HQ facilities and signage.

As a club Addiscombe is affiliated to the Surrey Cycle Racing League, each club must host a race to keep cycle racing events running throughout the year.

It is every members duty to help marshal at an Addiscombe event! Plus you'll get £5 from the club too, if your names posted on this thread.

So this is a great chance to do your bit for your club on a nice warm evening in May, with the best Agreeable company around.

Hi George, I'd like to help out on this but not sure I can make it down before about 7.30, but if I can be of any use as a line judge or marshalling please put me down.

Like Andy i will struggle to get there on time to do marshalling so can only offer to be finish judge, is it really that many marshalls you are still missing George?

Since I'm in a good mood after the club TT, yes I'll volunteer.

George,

Can you clarify something for me? I would like to race this event if I get away from work. If Addiscombe riders turn up to race and there are not enough marshalls will they be asked/made to marshall instead?

There will be no need for that because ACC is such a fantastic club full of many Agreeables we will easily have enough marshals to cover all the positions plus lots of team mates to cheer on for the win!

Hey George, good work! Earlier I drafted a really negative response to Dominic's note, and I'm so glad I binned it. Optimism rules 8)

...and anyone unable to help George out can drop Paul a note and help him out in the 3up TTT for which it looks like we're still short of helpers. Come on folks, please. It's part of your commitment to club membership to help out at least one event a year (two if you participate in any events in club colours) and think how much you get back through enjoyment of CRs, Brighton rides, introductions to racing, socials etc.

The point I was trying to highlight and maybe I was being too subtle. Neither George or Paul should be scrabbling around for marshals so close to the respective events with a club this size. It should be the first thing that gets filled leaving the organiser to be able to concentrate on everything else that needs to be done.

But hey lets be optimistic

Yes. You were being too subtle. The fact is that we should be capable of showing enough collective leadership to make staffing these events a doddle. But when highly visible members of the leadership team either show reluctance or outright refusal to get involved, well is it any wonder that we can't crack this issue?

Building trust in an organisation, be it a charity, a company, a club, or whatever, is simple. Not easy, but simple. Here's a simple way to do it click and look http://bit.ly/bK2fbh
