Worthing Excelsior 25

Postby Dominic » Sun May 16, 2010 11:21 am

Today was going to be my day to set my fastest 25 of the year. I felt good, was the lightest I had been this year and was on a new (to me) bike.

I was off 55 at 7.25am and it was a bit nippy but after a couple of minutes I actually felt warm. Felt like I was going well had caught 54, 53 and 52 before the top of Tolgate and hammered down the other side. Kept nipping along and then turned into the head wind to head towards Southwater. It was a struggle but not too bad and of course payback was being wind assisted on the way back to the finish. Gave it everything to the finish after I had been forced to skid to a halt at the last roundabout.

I was pretty sure I had been my fastest this year and also that I had gone under the hour. I was stunned when I saw my time was 1.01.35. Really don't know where I lost time. Was saying to my wife when I got home that I sometimes wished I hadn't been knocking out sub hour rides so consistently a couple of years ago as I know I am capable of it and it is really frustrating not being able to do it when I know that I can. Ho Hum

The leading time was a 52 when I left but Steve Dennis was still to finish.

Sylv the frame is absolutely lovely to ride. I can't believe how smooth it is Maybe that's why I thought I was going fast

That sounds like a strange one, I'm sure the times will come back soon. What were times like for others, apart from the Dennis' of this World who always seem to knock out belters, catching a 2 as your 3 minute man so soon I can understand why you thought you were going faster?

You did better than me today as I was a DNS leaving Sylv to make the trip as the only Addiscombe there as well. I had a bit of an upset stomach and didn't want an to drive an hour and a quarter around the M25 to do a race I couldn't give my all to.

It's funny you say that Andrew. I thought it was quite a fast day however Lee Turner only did a 55. No 60 did a 59 and the times did seem to suggest that it might not have been as fast out on the course as I thought it was!

Perhaps a bit of a deceptive day. I was gutted with a DNS as looking out the window I thought I was missing a float day, however reading your, Jon's, and comments on the TT Forum about the events he did and I was supposed to be doing it seems that was far from the case.

Bad luck Dom, still a good time though. Know how it feels when you think you've done better

This race two years ago was the only event I didn't PB in all season and yet was my fave event. Recall it wasn't a fast day but I rode the smartest for me and finished well up into mid table mediocrity. Yay 8)

You'll go a lot better for sure before 2010 is out

Dominic sours like you have not been doing enough quality training.

Today I went out with Keith, Dave K, Marcus and a few others over the ashdown forest and up the wall.
