Whilst nursing my shoulder/wrist i wanted something to tinker with - day two off work and i am bored and looking for things!... a small search later has unveiled this;

Which i collected tonight.

I'm unsure as to what to do with it at the moment... tomorrow i will oil all the bits and try and get it working, give it a clean/polish and decide its fate.

A classic/vintage road bike for retro cool? or do i totally rebuild it with new parts into a fixie as per the fad thats going on at the moment...!

Nice. You just need to get a Peugeot jersey and an eighties curly perm or mullet to go with it.

Nice bike. Agree with the others, get it working, replace cables, tubes and get some nice brown rubber hoods for the brake levers, new tape (dimpled plastic or cloth), micheln still do those black and tan tyres, sorted.

Is it me, or were frames bigger back then? The old bikes don't seem to show as much seatpost as we do now, even in TdF photos from the 70s and 80s.

Keep it original and get a perm and won't be able to go wrong with it.

Frames were bigger Dombo, you didn't have any of this (semi)compact geometry stuff, a proper classic diamond frame. Main triangles have been kept smaller even on current horizontal top tube bikes to increase the frame stiffness. A frame that fit you wasn't that scrotum friendly on standover.

not sure where I fit into the fixie culture, currently riding my track bike to work (whilst I await parts to fix my MTB SS commuter bike), no mudguard or rack but a frame pump and saddle bag, I don't have a messenger bag and wear exposed lycra (not hidden under baggy shorts or 3/4 lengths) ??

Its a bit rusty so needs a little bit of love... I'm very tempted to strip and rebuild... and if i get it painted i wouldn't do it original...

I promise to thrill all the club retro fans by coming on a clubrun soon on my 1970 Condor with period Campag 5-speed, tubs and sprints, built by Monty Young of Condor (don't have any other wheels for it). Doubt I'll be any slowr uphihh on it than on my modern steed.

Well... its all a bit unloved and junky and the rust is starting to come through so i am going to strip it and start again.

I really want to have a go at building one of these scene fixies.... probably anger many but its some thing i fancy having a go at!
