[quote="Will"]So what do you reckon will be the outcome?

Do you think we'll see a public collapse of Armstrong like his friend Tiger Woods?

With the Feds now investigating the US postal team (since US postal is a gov dept) and Landis having already started talks with the feds, anything is possible right now.

We could concievably get the holy grail of Armstrong confessing.. But dont expect a tiger woods collapse. If he does fall he would do so defiantly id guess

if he did go down because of drugs - I don't think it would make much of a difference to the American public, certainly not the sports fans. Baseball's drug scandals hi the news and then were swept aside, basically punishments for drug use over here are small enough to not affect a team's performance overall. Everyone knows that 350lb linebackers can't run as fast as they are on Gatorade alone. No one can day after day knock a baseball 400ft for a home run.... on Gatorade alone. It will be a big scandal for cycling, not for American sport, cycling will be ridiculed until no one can remember what they were talking about or until the next funny Geico commercial. Sure the cycling scene will suffer and I expect certain motorists (and cops) will enjoy the added fuel given to their vendetta against those in lycra. Cycling may even revert to the days of BA.

But I am getting ahead of myself.

Pretty certain he will be caught one day but wouldn't be surprised if he has basically faded into obscurity by then anyway - maybe a year or two I guess.

As far as the federal investigation goes, the question is whether public money was spent on illicit material or on the distribution of illicit materials.

IF there was a team policy, my GUESS is, more than likely there would be a rider's kitty to buy the actual material, so impossible to trace back to the sponsors, at least this was the model used pre-Festina.

It's a bit ot a grey area though IF salaried employees distributed the material to the riders. A DS would find it hard to defend if he, as a supervisor, distributed the materials directly. Again these are clever people operating in a hostile environment and more than likely they would remove themselves from the direct process (i.e) the riders kitty would pay for distribution and any medical advice.

And besides the only extra evidence we have now is the word of an unreliable witness.

Possible outcome: Some DS is implicated in some minor way, is punished. Everyone else denies any knowledge and the case is closed.

Probable outcome: Insufficient evidence is found.

Unless of course, Floyd can produce a little black dress with Lance's EPO infused blood on it ..........

No doubt it will be passed off as "a bitter photoshop user".

It's amazing how many people that used to know LA are now bitter.

Yes, a very good article, but (being pedantic) don't they have proof readers?
[quote]Transparency has been the buzz word the past couple of days. Pat McQuaid, in denying that the UCI took a bribe to suppress a positive dope test, has said the UCI can provide paperwork to support it's position. Hopefully that will be posted on its website soon.

[quote="David.Hilbert"]The [edited by marco] (alleged) pay off to the uci to cover up armstrongs positive is the jewel in the crown

Also, is anyone more than a little alarmed at wiggins link with Lim last year?

Not at all. If they're all at it then it levels the playing field. Go Brad!

btw, while on the subject of pharmaceutical enhancement, what's the best otc painkiller for hotfoot? I munched paracetamol and ibuprofen all round the Dragon Ride last year (sorry Marco  ) to keep it at bay. I'm thinking something with added caffeine or some other stimulant to get me round the course again this year. Judging by my Borat-style beard growth and enthusiastic efforts at chatting up women riders while riding up Bwlch I'd say my testosterone levels don't need topping up. Not aspirin, as that thins the blood so could have unfortunate side effects if I crash.
Thought about blood-doping but feel a bit embarassed about donating an armful then asking for it back in a couple of weeks.

From what I've read around the subject of doping, different athletes respond differently to EPO than other athletes.
These 'high-responders' have a distinct advantage over other doped athletes. It certainly doesn't make the playing field level.
