Women only cycling groups

Postby Amy » Thu Jun 10, 2010 9:17 am

Is anyone aware of any women only cycling groups - and I don't mean racing teams?

I've had a query from a lady asking for a women specific group. Not sure what area she is looking for specifically but I said I'd look around and see if any are available.

I had seen that one already and it had crossed my mind - but we could be making an assumption here (though it isn't all Muslim women in it). There was an Oxford Uni women's one but I didn't see any more.

There's a Yorkshire Ladies Cycling Association. My 10 mile PB was done in their event (I wasn't in drag, it was open to men too).

Don't know whether Rosslyn Ladies CC still exists. Apparently in the olden days they had, let's say a certain reputation, as none of them were married.

I don't know of any women only clubs, but if she joins the London Women's Cycle Racing facebook group, there is often info on there about women only training / coaching sessions.

E.g. Herne Hill women only track training on Sunday eves - but I'm not sure if this is still on as they didn't get good attendance. The coach is a man though.
Hillingdon have a Women's free-style keep fit club on Friday afternoons (I guess it's geared towards mums?) and there's usually a couple of women-only training sessions in the winter. Also, the Thursday eve training session I went to had lots of women in attendance, mainly fairly new riders, though there were men as well.

Other than this I don't really know, but she could try posting the query on the facebook group. Or, as Marco says, ask Maria (she is one of the admins of the fb group anyway).

A search of the BC club list has also uncovered Kent Velo girls http://kentvelogirls.co.uk/

which is a women only club with 65 members, according to their website

It is still on, this Sunday at 4pm. Very friendly whatever your ability and highly reccomended. Please try and support this as the numbers have been quite low this year so far.

HH women's training - Yes, unfortunately I was away this weekend and couldn't make it. I did go to one this year and it was very good. I've asked Anna G when else it will be on as I don't think it's every week - will post when I find out.

Sunday's women's session was a big success with plenty of support ranging from novices to experienced riders. The next one will be towards the end of June, will post here when it's confirmed.
