Energy Drinks

Postby tel » Sun Jun 13, 2010 11:49 am

Just been to buy yet another tub of Sports Drink. After reading this weeks comic I seem to remember some recipes from my running days. I think it was something like flat lemonage and glucose powder with a pinch of salt.

Does any Agreeables have any recipes which may work. Just to bring the exorbitant (sp) prices down.

No special magic recipe Terry but I've used slightly watered down flat coke (normal not diet) before which is fine for a normal ride, longer ones and I'd want to take in some carb drink as well.

Hi Tel

This is what I do...

go to Holland and Barratt

buy a pack of glucose and a pack of fructose.

5 x heaped tea spoons of glucose to 2 1/2 heaped teaspoons of fructose is the ideal mix (scientifically proven that the combination works better than either one on its own) for a addiscombe water bottle.

It's cheap and does the job.

and doesn't taste bad either.

Enjoy

I have various SIS powerder sachets if you want some?

I tried giving away some on some clubs runs and people seemed scared of me...?!

I like the sounds of the Holland and Barret idea. But any suggestions anyone on how to cover the idea of protein in this mix and the electrolyte side of things.

Rob, the quinine in tonic water is meant to help with avoiding cramp; I sometimes mix energy drinks for a long ride using half tap water and half flat tonic water.
