Numb hand

Postby jon avery » Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:19 pm

After my long ride, i trapped a nerve in the bottom base of my hand, i have been taking anti-flammatory pills and massaging the trapped nerve area (no rude comments please  ) It seems to be taking a long time to heal, is this normal to take so long? has anyone had this? And how can i stop it happenng in the future, i was regually changing hand posistion , and trying to keep weight off it, but alas..........

I'd recommend an ice pack, or if you can't find one of those, holding a nice cold pint glass should also work :D

If you damaged the nerve endings then they can take quite a while to repair, I had a very small patch on my shin that wss a bit numb to the touch from cruciate ligament repair surgery which lasted for a good few years.

I'd just look after it as common sense would dictate and if it's still the same at the end of the month then go and see the doctor to let them give it a once over.

For the ride i was using Addiscombe (Santini) gloves, is the ulnar nerve at the base of the palm below the little finger? Because that is where the doc says i've trapped mine, ta for the reply's folks, some good advice :D

Yes, that's exactly where it is. BG gloves have a big gel pad right there.
