ACC Club Survey

Postby higg » Mon Jun 14, 2010 10:46 pm

This is a message from the club committee.

ACC Club Survey
=================

In the last few years Addiscombe Cycling Club has continuously grown to just over 300 members at last count. With all this expansion, it is probably time to poll everyone to see what kind of cycling they are involved in and what they would like to get from their cycling club.

Once the results are collected they will be published and will help the club committee decide how to make the club more efficient and "agreeable".

In the next day or two everyone will be sent an email with the survey form. Please return the form to the email address given (accsurvey10*at*gmail.com)

It would be good to hear from everyone in the club so please fill out the survey and return it even if you don't answer all the questions.

=====================================================================

To move things along I will be at the club run in Coulsdon South next Saturday to collect forms. It would help matters if you could either :

(i) print and fill out the survey beforehand and return it to me by email or in person at Coulsdon.

or

(ii) arrive a few minutes early, get a blank form from me and take a minute or two to fill it out there and then.

Again, it would be good to get as many forms back as possible.

The VCs have been asked to check that everybody in their group returns the survey before the group leaves the station !!!

I'll be making similar moves to get the forms from the other arms of the club. Hopefully within a couple of weeks I'll have enough returns to start publishing the results.

Note that all returns can be filled out annoymously but we will mark off who has completed a form so we can make sure to get returns from as many people as possible.

Thanks in advance for your support,

Aodan Higgins
ACC MTB secretary

I've just sent out the email this evening (Tuesday).

If you haven't recieved it then chances are we don't have your up-to-date email address.

If this is so then send an email to accsurvey10*at*gmail.com with a subject line of CHANGE TO EMAIL ADDRESS

If your name isn't obvoious from the address then mention it in the email also.

Aodan

A very useful thing to do, potentially. I just have a few questions:

How 'anonymous' will it be if you are marking off the names of completers, and especially if we send responses by email (as I have)?

Where will the results be published, and how will you assess what will inevitably be rather subjective responses?

Who will see the data in its 'raw' state - i.e. the completed forms?

I think this is a good idea, hope it results in lots of feedback. More importantly I hope people are invited and encouraged to be involved in what follows. I've changed the question on my survey from "what do you not like about the club?" to "what could the club do better?" But then I am a nerd when it comes to social surveying.

Well done

Thanks for all the responses so far, 30 at last count, keep them coming .......

Some good questions, I'll try to answer,
How 'anonymous' will it be if you are marking off the names of completers, and especially if we send responses by email (as I have)?

Where will the results be published, and how will you assess what will inevitably be rather subjective responses?

It's hard to be truly anonymous, but I will print the forms before attempting any data entry, this will remove any connection to the email address. For those handing the form back physically the name checking will be done on a seperate piece of paper so should also be independent, anything else I guess I'll give you my word. So far, only I have access to the email acount, (this might increase by one or two to provide some checking/verification and if the workload (or printload) comes to much, these would be bound by the same discretion).

The table data will be easy to publish in a few graphs, the text questions will need to be scanned (by eye) for common themes which can then be counted and published.

The "raw" forms will be seen by me and maybe one or two others for data entry and checking. If there is debate over subjective answers then the committee may see them but I'm guessing this won't happen.

The main aim of the survey is fairly general (to give an overall view of the membership and to pick up common themes in the likes/dislikes) and this in itself should preserve anonymity.

personally I abhor anonymity. If I'm surveyed for something how is anyone going to involve me in any further discussion if they don't know who said what (type thang).

Optionally anonymous is just about bearable - but please don't force it on me y'all.

Happy for all my comments and suggestions to be attributed to me

And keep up the good work. 30% is already a better than 10% response rate (cos if we really do have 300 members well then England gonna win the world cup  )

Snoop, opinions go on the survey forms, I know you've sent yours but you can resend it if you've thought of something else. :D

Seriously though, I just want to keep this thread clean for queries/updates about the survey, the debates can happen elsewhere.

Thanks everybody for your support today in collecting the surveys. Special thanks to Andrew and Tim for helping hand out the forms.

85 forms now collected

I'll start compiling them the week after next (June 30th) so there's still plenty time to send one in.

Just an update, (I been away for a while and then got a cold but am back on track now).

Thanks to everybody who's responded, I've just downloaded the 106th survey return.

I've made a simple spreadsheet and entered the number-type results from 35 returns so far. I should be able to publish some graphs of the results by next week.

The text answers will take a bit more thought though. More later.

You haven't missed them Paul, I must alpologise, I've just been dragging my heels over the summer gettting them all together. I presented some partial results to the committee at the last meeting in August and since then Mr Green and Paul Tunnel have helped put the rest of the data in.

In fact your comment is very timely, I have promised to get the "data" results published before the next committee meeting, which is tomorrow. I'll put them on here later today.

The next step is to condense the "text" answers and produce a summary of the ideas expressed. I'm planning to get a few people together to go through these one evening and hopefully with many heads we can produce something useful. It would be best to have a good cross-section of the club represented so there is no perceived bias. I'm looking for volunteers.
