Is Cav the new Abdoujaparov?

Postby Phil H » Wed Jun 16, 2010 9:28 am

Spectacular finish to yesterday's Tour de Suisse stage.

Hope he didn't damage his teeth.

Edit: Could this have been prevented if we had ACC members out marshalling?

Amazing reactions and bike handling from Flecha to swerve around Boonen and through the gap between the bodies and bikes on the ground to take 6th place.

[quote]In days of old when knights were bold, sprinting was a gladiator sport with all the thrills and spills of high speed sprints and sometimes crashes.

Sprinters who live in the fast lane like Cav don't take prisoners it's in their blood, like it or not thats the way it is. If you want them to ride in a straight line maybe we should have lanes for them to sprint in

Switching, blocking elbowing grunting is all part of a sprinter, now and again when you ride like this you come a cropper. Cav was naughty but it's the way he is you won't change him

Just ask The Shadow....

What happened with his front wheel? On one of the pics, it was folded flat on the road, next second it had sprung back straight again???

I suspect it's knackered, they seem to like folding in half these wheels  . Probably just sprung back to round from the well glued on tub but the wheel itself broken.

Great isn't it, just dead casual wiggle of the hips to weave through the gap.

Cav was looking undamaged at the Rapha party on Sat after the Nocturne.

It does make you wonder if he was riding a stronger wheel he may have stayed up, because normally if you touch like that in a sprint you shouldn't come down as it wasn't a massive impact until his carbon wheel folded into that invisible hole in the ground.

Also, I think HH was at fault as well, as he was behind Cav and rode into the side of him elbowing him as he did which probably caught Cav's arm which caused the crash. No way should Cav have come down unless the wheel folded and or HH caught Cav under the arm causing his bars to turn, at that speed your going to have problems if you arm is knocked like that.

Good point Col, and exactly why I believe these flat stages should be decided with a bunch slow race. More fun, and defo safer

I wish I'd asked him about it now, but even though we managed to drag him to a lockin in a Faringdon pub (seriously) 8) , he wasn't exactly the most talkative.
