Riding for pleasure

Postby Ivor » Wed Jun 23, 2010 9:56 am

So normally when I ride I'm either riding a TT, or commuting... and since my commuting is my training riding, then I'm usually riding as fast as I can all the time, or trying to sprint up hills.... and well it's not that much fun.

On Friday I had a day off and the opportunity to just go for a steady ride in the sun.... and had the most enjoyable ride I've had all year just cruising along carefree. Once or twice I caught myself feeling guilty I wasn't pushing harder. and backed off a couple of times I found myself overdoing it going up hill. But at the end of the day felt fantastic and realised I'd really missed just going for a nice simple ride. :D really must do it more often!

Then last night had the club 2-up Jack and Jill with Lorraine. Brilliant fun, trying to maintain a nice steady pace and keeping it nice and smooth. Not sure of our exact time since I forgot to hit stop on my watch , but I'm positive we broke evens comfortably.

So two really enjoyable and different rides this week.... and I've remembered how I felt when I started to "get into" my cycling a few years ago. More of the same to come I think.

I was expecting something else from the title :| .

Always good to have a nice long steady ride in the countryside, a lot of mine are done out of season but I still get the odd one in if I've only got a 10 on the Saturday and nothing booked in on the Sunday. Have a couple of possibles for that soon so will post something up if I'm cruising the countryside should anyone want to join me.

Jack n' Jill is good fun, can't be quite hard too with the "faster! faster!" shouts from behind on the flat and then easing on the drags making it a bit intervally.

(sorry for the fnarr count -unless of course you're as childish as me- hadn't realised until I re-read it  )

I think you should probably factor in an easier ride maybe twice a month in your training plan-perhaps as a taper before a target race would also be a good idea.
