The wife wants a beach and sun

I am thinking of taking the bike so I can get some rides in. Any suggestions ??

Thanks

Try Northern Spain, Asturias, where the Spanish go for holidays. Ribadsella has a huge beach http://www.desdeasturias.com/paginas/index.asp?loc=55

You can cycle many country roads on the flat and probably up into the pico de europas 2000m and into a nearby national park. planes fly into Olviedo airport which is actually near Gijon another good and modern beach resort http://www.asturiasguide.com/Gijon.html

Northern Spain is unlike the costas with different food and different customs and few brits, Spain's best kept secret!

Another vote for South of France. Various options in the south east, worth looking at trains for travel too. Easier / safer for you to look after your bike and doesn't take much longer once you add in airport travel and early check in. Nicer way of travelling than plane, check out the links in the useful info thread for tips, timetables etc.

I am hitting Cannes, South of France last 2 weeks of July with the family. Got my eyes on La Madone. Anyone got any route suggestions/ rides in this part of the world or connections with any local bike clubs.

Puerto Pollenca Mallorca. Handy for Cap Formentor, Lluc, Soller, Sa Calobra etc and also Tolo's Bar on the road to Alcudia which does daily CR type rides. Just meet up and go from there.

Go inland and all the roads are fantastic. Mons is a good ride and the coastal road to St Raphael is a pretty nice as well.

You could always visit Martinique (we've got beaches), there's Sun (30/31°C all year round) and cycling is a fairly big thing here. If you like climbs you won't be disappointed. Bonus : during hurricane season the prices are pretty reasonable :)

...double bonus - the hurricane tailwind will fly you up to the top of the climbs double quick
